Hey all, just thought that it was time I became a part of the group here...

I'm 37, a dude, and a fan of the band.

I've been to probably 20 shows since my first in 1994. I've seen the band at least once a summer since that first show--and I've loved 'em all.

As I sit here listening to the final show at the Fillmore East, I figured it was timeI give a great big thanks here to everyone who had posted such great information all over the site. I've been able to share so much of the band's music with my friends over the years thanks to all of you. I truly appreciate it--as do my friends.

Apart from the usual radio-play that the Allman Brothers Band got, I really didn't know much about the band & knew little outside of the more mainstream stuff until late in college. I was working on a film for my junior project & needed some background music for a road-trip scene. I wanted to avoid the chiche "Greatful Dead" songs that were brought up by the crew, and was at a creative standstill until one dude said, "How 'bout this one?". He played the opening riff of 'Jessica' and I was hooked. I don't really think I'd ever heard it before because if the way I just sat there stunned. I didn't even know it was an ABB tune until he told me. I was captivated. I had never heard guitars do that. That sound was so alive! It took me a few more years to find that the live stuff was the real music to listen to.

Since then I've become an intense recruiter amongst my friends to go see the band in concert each summer. I'll get a group of buddies, lend them my treasured copy of the show at the Filmore East & if they have ANY appreciation for true musicianship they're hooked. I've never had a complaint...Not one.

Anyway, I'm hoping to get to the show in Burgettstown, PA next week with a buddy. We'll probably camp somewhere in the area...Anyone have any tips? How are the shows this summer? I checked out the recent set lists & they look like they're playing some great shows. I can't wait 'till Aug 15th...

Anyway, that's all for now. Thanks again everyone for the great job you all do spreading the love...

...by the way, the film sucked. But my prof did mention the music..."Good choice...nice feel."

Yeah, nice feel.

As I said, it took me a while to get into what I think we all love about the band--the live stuff...

After college, I joined one of those silly "50 CD's for a dollar" music clubs that I think everyone has joined at one time or another. So they had the deal that they'd send you a CD every month unless you told them not to...Well I forgot. So they sent me this double CD in a small cardboard box that obscured the title and cover. I could sort of see a black cover with some red writing...I did't even know what I had! I didn't order the damn thing, and now I had to pay for it...I was pissed. The CD sat unopened for months until one night while cleaning, I stumbled upon the box & decided to open it up to see what I was going to throw away.

It was "At Fillmore East" (remastered).

Needless to say, I didn't throw it away.

It opened my eyes to a whole different aspect to their music. And I'm soooooo freakin' glad I cleaned my apartment that night...

Hey welcome aboard. Does the name indicate OHIO? I-70?

You no doubt have heard of vines / vining? I highly recommend checking it out if you like live / free music. I have got some amazing shows this way and it's fun, sort of like a pen pal thing.

Anyhow, there you go.

I too am new to posting to the website. I've been going to shows for about 15 years. I regret never making it to the Beacon when I lived in NJ; now it may just have to be a "vacation" destination as I moved NC 3 years ago. I am looking forward to the show in Charlotte tonight.

I have enjoyed reading everybody's posts and know my thoughts are with all of those who ask. We all have a time in our lives when just knowing all of the good vibes are coming your way somehow makes you feel better.

Buckeye70 ~ thanks for your post; it finally made me do the same... it ain't easy being the new kid on the block; no matter how old you are.
