Billy Bob Thornton has released a new cd, "Beautiful Door" - and is currently touring across the country. Although he is primarily known for acting, he started and continues as a musician, vocals and drums. He is a fan of the ABB, has a photo of himself and Gregg in the studio, and Warren visits when he's in town. He got on stage with Dickey in Columbus, Ohio - an experience he loves to talk about!

He opens himself with another band project - the Boxmasters - really great musicians and performances.

The following photos were taken at The El Rey in Los Angeles on August 4, 2007, Billy Bob's birthday - enjoy!

Cool Tami! I read an interview Billy Bob did on his music once and when asked what he personally liked to listen to ABB was 1st answer, I believe. So what is BBob's music like?

Hey Deb, sometimes he sounds a little like Chris Isaac, then he played a blues number that was really good. He's got Graham Nash on vocals on his cd, so it's a mixture - I would say he's a little more on the country side, but he says "hillbilly..."

I have to wonder who put together that schedule....Huntsville Alabama and then up to Denver?!

Johnny and I first met Billy Bob in Nashville when Phil Walden was managing him and got to know him better when he directed the first Widespread Panic video in Athens, GA and Johnny did the recording for the band. He's a really interesting man. It's also when the first Aquarium Rescue Unit album was recorded.

Billy Bob played Rockers, the club I worked at in Houston.

He was in a ZZ Top tribute band managed by Phil Hamm, ZZ Top's manager.

I didn't work that night, so I couldn't tell you how it was.

Ron, I believe that BILL Hamm...and didn't Billy Bob play drums in that ZZ Top tribute band? I heard him do a radio interview with John Boy and Billy a while back. He sounds like the kind of guy I could kick back and have a beer with.

Anybody who can claim musicians such as Col. Bruce, Vic Chesnut, and Dwight Yocum to be close personal friends must know great music. I have heard him interview on JB &B, and heard some of his music here and there. He's actually pretty good, though a little on the country side for me. Oh, did I mention he was a great actor too?

You're right, it is Bill.

Phil Hamm is a hockey coach who assisted me about 10 years ago.

I knew it didn't sound quite right.

Heh heh.

Dwight Yoakam was at the concert with Fred Durst....I know, an odd combo...but Billy Bob always has outstanding musicians record with him when they are in town...Warren Haynes, Billy Gibbons, Graham Nash, etc...

There is a short article in "people" magazine this week on Billy Bob and he brings up the ABB twice. Once when they asked to name his top 3 favorite bands and again when they asked him what his all time favorite song was, he said it was "Mountain Jam"!

Magic Mushroom
A tribute to Angelina Jolie etched in 2000 at Sunset Tattoo in Los Angeles, CA, the design references the Allman Brothers, Billy Bob's favorite band. All of the members of the Allman Brothers have mushroom tattoos from the Eat a Peach album. "It's a crew thing," Billy Bob noted. Located on his right calf.

The color picture of the guitar player smiling, below the lava light picture, his name is Brad Davis. He played for many years with Marty Stuarts band, also played in the band that backed David Lee Roth. He is one of the finest flatpicking guitarist on the planet & also a great teacher. I've been privileged to attend one of his workshops...great guy!!!
