The recorded temperature in Augusta yesterday was 100. When I came in from lunch today, it was 102. This is what we have to look forward to for the rest of the week, weather wise.

The folks who work in my industry are especially susceptible to heat prostration and stroke. Aside from the heat, they work around 300 degree paving material. Some of them showed the effects of the heat yesterday. Several vomited, many were close to prostration. The foreman knocked everyone off by 2:30PM. So, for this week, everyone is starting work at 6AM and trying to finish by 2PM.

To everyone else dealing with the heat, make sure to stay hydrated. Keep plenty of water handy and take cool off breaks when you can. This stuff can KILL. Word.

Much as I'm looking forward to Friday night's show in Charlotte, I'm not looking forward to being out in this heat. Go out at even 3:00 in the morning and it's still hot and muggy.

I gotta wonder why the trend continues to have these summer shows outdoors. Especially for older bands who tend to have an older crowd. Not many shows draw more than 15,000 to 20,000 anymore, meaning that almost all these shows could easily be put into air conditioned arenas that exist in almost all decent-sized cities. It has to be as difficult for the band as it is for the fans.

Dave - it's been really hot here in middle, too. In 90's today but humidity is 75 and it feels like the 100's. Don't know how you guys doing physical labor in this kind of heat do it! Stay safe, my friend! (Agua - Bien!)

On a related note - just brought this up elsewhere but travellers be sure to check your tires before heading out for any long trips. I had a tire explode on me this weekend while doing 80 on the interstate and was told by the guardian angel who stopped to help me change it that it was probably a little under inflated causing it to explode with the heat. So keep the tires inflated and drink lots of water while wearing your sunscreen!

(btw - did see lot's of nice bikes heading to Sturgis while I was on the trip, Dave )

Lolasdeb, I did Sturgis in 1998. Hope to maybe do it again next year....or 2009. Oh wait, 2009 is when I'll have my 30 year HS reunion. We'll see.

I just checked the forecast for Charlotte this Friday and its calling for a high of 99. The heat will be brutal even at 10:00 pm. I guess more water and less beer.

Raleigh is checking in at a cool 91 for Saturday.

A nice moderate 98 today in Pennsyltucky. The humidity is so bad!!!! You can't enjoy yourself outside at all. I, too, feel for y'all who have to work outside. Stepping into the comfort of A/C is like a slice of heaven.

Hope you all keep cool....keep the agua at yo side, peeps.

Peace!

I know what you're talking about Dave. 101 yesterday with a heat index of 108. Today it's 99 with an index of 106 with an alert for the rest of the week of 110 or above for heat index and over 100 temperature wise. We use salt tablets.....I learned that trick when we were shooting skeet. Of course, my goal is to stay inside as much as possible now!

But don't say anything to Skip....he's been working in 117 degree heat for a while now!!!

And stepping out is like...well, you know. Mine at home went out over the weekend Thank God for electric fans but it's hard to get things accomplished when it's this hot (like sleeping through the night...)

I be that asphalt can cook your eggs anyway you want them. I just walked thru our warehouses and was dry before, now I am ringing wet. Hot Hot Hot...............

I feel for you folks out working on the roads and roofs. I dont know how you do it. Up here in Gastonia we say the area you are in BD, Columbia, Augusta is the hottest place around.
The weather man shows us that on the map every night. Ya'll need to put a swimming pool on the back of one of your trucks to keep ya'll cool!!!

Does anyone know if the venue in Charlotte allows you to set-up a shade canopy?

We have one that is 10'x10' and it just pops up real quick like.

Y'all are welcome to come hangout under it before the show.

I doubt it, I dont think they even allow umbrellas. I think they will have the mist tents out.
I hope. Those beers will be good after a couple or so, after that will be headache city.

Neil, it's Clark's Hill Lake...if you live on the Georgia side. They decided in SC to rename it J. Strom Thurmond Lake and Dam. The Georgia folks have yet to consent to the name change. Largest man made flood basin east of the Mississippi River, so they say. 70,000 acres at full pool and 1250 miles of shoreline.

Do you recall where in North Augusta they lived? You should see it now. They are developing the riverfront. It's turning into a beautiful little town.

So I guess I'll wear short and a tank top. Should I bring bug spray? I bet it'll be too hot for the skeeters.
