What is the worst cover that the ABB have ever performed? Meaning, the worst song of another artist that the Allmans themselves have played?

I'm going to go with "The Same Thing"... That song always sorta of dragged to me, and there was nothing about it that really grabbed my goat.

The Allmans usually have incredibly high standards, so this should be tough, but I'm going with "The Same Thing"...

Y'all?

I kind of disagree with the Same Thing...that song has an incredible jam to end the song...plus have you heard the '03 Beacon versions with horns...FUNKY! Anyway, to each their own...

My worst cover the band has performed: Banks of the Deep End...interesting cover, and well played, but not really ABB material....Franklin's Tower is another that comes to mind...well played and all, but not ABB material...

The Same Thing? No way! That is one of the best covers!
I kind of like the Franklins Tower cover.

I think their worst cover is Donovan's "First There is a Mountain."
Yeah whatever.
I don't know what their worst cover is, or if I could actually pick one.
On a happy note, and speaking of ABB covers, my dad and I were at lunch yesterday, and he said he heard the greatest "Motown" song on NPR a few days ago. Lo and behold it was Woman Across the River! "After all those years of hearing you talk about the Allman Brothers, and I thought they were just a rock band!" Cool words coming from a senior citizen!

I liked Heart Of Stone not as much as Warren doing Into The Mystic that is one of my all time favorites to slow drag to

Heheh. Frank, have you ever noticed that you enjoy disliking songs more than you enjoy liking them? If either of us figures out what that means, let me know. Anyway, I actually like most of the songs mentioned here. And anybody who's not keen on The Same Thing DOES need to hear the version with Gregg's horns from 3/21. I've had that pretty much on repeat over here. Franklin's Tower wasn't amazing, but the ABB/Phil and Friends version in Charlotte sure was cool. I like Heart of Stone too. Sweet Mama probably gets the nod from me.

You people aren't honoring me very much, let's get some more posts on this thread!

I appreciate Frank creating this thread in my honor, but why the heck did he go and steal my pick? (Heart of Stone). To be fair, however, I have virtually no idea of what the band may have been up to between 1974 and 1989 - perhaps there were some stinkers in there.

Marley,

You might have winked, but I have grown very tired of your act. I prefaced the last thread with a "We all love this band, so let's have some fun", but I guessed you missed that (it won't be the first time that you read what you wanted to read).

I'll will tell you this much, though: Anyone who is here loves this band as much as you, and for those of us who plod along without the "connections" that you have, we probably love it more.

Love "The Same Thing". I like "Heart of Stone" although I could agree it is not one of the stronger ones. I think it's too early to tell on something like "Banks of the Deep End" which I'm not sure I would consider a cover though either. I know it's a Mule song, but Warren co-wrote it, so it's a weird situation.
I would have to say that some of the lesser played ones didn't come off as well as their usual list of covers. "Sweet Mama", "Hideaway" or "If I Had Possession Over Judgement Day". In fact those are the only ones I can think of where I haven't really found a great ABB version. I love the Mule doing Judgement day though.
I liked "Franklin's Tower" a lot, too, although I see where your coming from. I kind of wish they would mix that, "Loan Me a Dime" (which is wonderful) and "I Feel So Bad" back in the sets.
