New software comes out every year. I don't see the harm in asking what everyone is using. May be something better.

Just got access to t3 connection at work, I've been in dial up world up until now. (still doin rabbit ears though)

There has been hundreds of threads in the past to deal with this subject but I was out in the parkin' lot waitin' on the big show.

now that I can grab some of the good tunes off the ethernet, I might as well start takin notes.

Paging RonB.... he always seems to have the links I needed, lol.

J.R: www.mikewren.com will answer all of your FLAC questions.

www.utorrent.com is what I use for downloading, but be careful; the newest available version is flawed so badly I believe its had to be recalled several times. I use version 1.6 and it's been great.

And Hugh covered where to download from!! Hiya Hugh!

I've used Azureus for downloading torrents and FLAC frontend works quickly and easily for converting FLAC to WAV. The whole process may be tedious but is not difficult. You'll probably never trade cd's again---except for ABB.

Also got the flac frontend and the shn. plugins for Nero, nothing tedious happens here.

And when you start doing DVD torrents, DVD shrink is a great burning program.

DFab Decrypter to rip "problem" sources.

Heh heh.

I Use EAC with a flac plug-in to extract directly to flac, and Nero to burn from flac, so no need to mess with .WAV files or conversion.

Ahhh, Zombtracker, didn't know about that one. Y'see it's always better to ask someone than to Google. Less chance of picking up maleware. After all, That's what these forums are for, right.

I'm stuck in dialup hell also. Time to take my laptop on a wardrive. hee, hee.

I bought Nero 7 when it came out and I got strted doing the computer burning.

Last year I kept getting error readings and basically Nero would crash everytime I tried to use it.

The suggestion was to uninstall it, then load it again.

Only problem was I couldn't find my program disc anywhere.

After two days of looking, I gave up and found a tracker with Nero 7 on it.

Took less than 10 minutes to DL and install, everything works good as new.

(Not that I'd condone that sort of thing)

You'd be surprised at what is available.

Heh heh.

1) What to use as flac to wav conversion.

Trader's Little Helper - an all-in-one tool to decode, encode, test shn and flac files.

2) What to use for BitTorrents and Downlading

Azureus works for me

3) Where to download from.

shnflac.net and bt.etree.org

Also use Exact Audio Copy to extract wav files, Nero to burn, CDRWave Editor to record and split waves and Cool Edit Pro for adjusting sample rates, noise reduction etc.
