Briefly once. He was a very nice guy, not a mean bone in his body.

Never met him, but i watched "Basic Instinct" at a theatre in Boston in '92 and he was sat on his own a row infront. There's a bit in the film where someone shouts "Liar!!" and my buddy instantly blurted out "pants on fire!" - Garcia turned round and absolutely pissed himself laughing! Which set us off, so I've shared a gigglin fit with him Loved it !

Never met him. Never came close.

There is a funny part on the JGB - Live at Shoreline DVD. The band members are talking about Jerry. One of them (David Kemper I think) told about a fan seeing Jerry and asking "Jerry, how is everything ?" Jerry replied "I don't know..... I haven't tried everything." A few minutes later Jerry seemed bummed and felt responsible for the fan and told the bandmate "oh man... no that kid is going to go out and try everything"

So the next time somebody asks you "How is everything ?", recall Jerry's answer.

My friend Fig's brother is a police officer in Mass. and to make a long story short at one of the band's final shows in Foxboro some time in the 1990's, he was working a Dead show and got into a long conversation with Jerry and didn't even know who he was until later! How funny is that?

I didn't talk to him, but I met him once at the Alembic store in SF. I was dropping off a bass to be worked on and he walked in as I was playing another instrument. Our eyes met, we smiled, nodded and said hello but I kind of got the feeling that when I looked up at him and made eye contact that it flashed through his mind, "Oh no, not another fan going to want to talk to me about the same stuff I've had to talk about a million times before" so I left it at a smile, nod and hello.

A buddy's girlfriend once was way too stoned and out of control on LSD one night at the Pauley Pavilion at UCLA (Dead, New Riders, 1971) and a security guard brought the three of us backstage to Weir's section of the locker room. He came back there at set break, was friendly, kind and supportive - we were freaking out, and to him it was another day at the office. He made everyone back there give us space, and she calmed down after a while.

Morgentow WV, I was walking by the Deads bus with my dog and Jerry was sitting on the bottom step of the bus. My dog walked right over to him, we chatted for about 5 minutes,he was saying he misses his dogs when he is on the road.
Another funny story: My friend lives in Hawaii and belongs to a dive club that Jerry was in. My friend hates everything having to do with the dead, but he said Jerry was a real fun guy. Anyway he said every time they went down all the fish in the ocean would come out and swim around Jerry, He said they would make a circle and hold hands and Jerry would go in the middle. within minutes all kids of fish would come out and swim around him.

I miss Jerry, he passed away the same day my dad did.

I've never been a big fan of the Dead's music, but I would have loved to meet and hang out with Jerry some. He seemed like warm and free spirit. RIP
