I know this has been brought up before but what do you guys think. Personally I can never sit at a show especially the brothers but I feel bad standing up when it is a seated venue and I have recieved more than my share of dirty looks and complaints but I feel like musicians appreciate it when fans dance or at least seem to be into the music. I couldn;t believe 12,000 people sat down when I saw clapton. So what do you guys think?

Stand up and dance if you want to ... just please, SHUT THE EFF UP! I paid to hear the band, not listen to a bunch of people gab and make cel-phone calls.

I like to dance, if you can call my movements that! Still, I like a reserved seat for a break now and again.

Got to Stand up for your Rights!

The Orchestra at the Beacon is no problem. For the PNC I have to have a seat in the 100 sections other wise the gestapo ushers listen to the crys to sit down in the 200-300 sections. Live music gets the blood flowing, I have to be able to stand whenever I can.

Peace,
JIM

When I saw Panic at the Chicago Theater last month, I had seat in the first row of the balcony. Out of courtesy, I spent more time sitting than I otherwise would have just in case people behind me couldn't see that well. And by sitting,I really didn't miss a thing since I was in the first row. Generally, I go with the flow. I hate people who act as if they should be able to enjoy the band as if they were in their own living room. Live shows don't work like that. My cardinal rules are as follows.

1. Handle your liquor.
2. Shut up!
3. No twirl dancing! (These people really piss me off as they seek only to call attention to themselves and take up as much room as possible.)
4. No clapping during the song. (Most people who clap during the song have no sense of rhythm.)
5. Be cool to others.

I usually dance for most of a show.

The only two times I've encountered problems while doing this (at over 120 shows) were at two recent ABB shows - the TP double bill at Hartford last summer and the 4/7 Beacon show this year. The people behind me were cursing at my wife, sister and I, and at the Beacon the guy behind me actually grabbed me and threatened to throw me off the balcony. They were both very uncool, unpeaceful experiences.

I don't necessarily dance at every show I go to, and when I do, I don't usually dance the entire time. At the Hartford show last summer, I sat through most of the TP set. But I've never hassled anyone in front of me who chose to stand up and dance (or just stand and not dance), it's part of the experience and should be expected. If you don't like people obstructing your view of the stage, stay home and watch a concert DVD or VH1 Classic.

However, I am fully on board in regard to people who feel compelled to constatly yap during a show on their cell phones, that is VERY obnoxiuos. Part of dancing during a show is a physical expression of one's connection tot eh music. If you're yapping with your friends one the phone, your focus is somewhere else.

I have a really bad, surgically repaired back, so I alternate between standing and sitting. I am almost at the point of giving up shows in standing only venues. It's just not worth the painful weeks of aftermath that usually follow.

I would never begrudge someone of their joy at a show by asking them to sit even if I'm sitting and they are right in front of me. I know some will disagree, but that is just how I feel. I always hate it at the Beacon when someone throws me a "Down in front" so I'm not gonna be a hypocrite. To try to restrain someone from dancing or grovving or air guitaring you are just taking away from the ambience of a show.

I love to dance , dance , dance.... but guilt has set in.... I usually have great seats not always but for most part .... so i was at the DBGS at Westhampton this past May 07' I was 2 nd row dead center... I found it soooooooooo hard not to jump up and dance.. Of course i did for a few songs... so there was this really nice guy sitting next to me and I believe he said he also played guitar in band , locally on L.I. and we got to talking about the dance thing... and he was all for it ..but did make this comment and it echoed in my head long after we left... We have great seats and it can be very annoying to the people who don't ..like look at them dancing and standing in my view..having a good seat wasn't good enough... ouch... So I'm gonna try and be considerate of my fellow Brother and Sista's...the next I jump up and shake my ass...
It's the best music to groove too, thou.... where's my pole ???? hehehehe

DancinAngel, don't you EVER let anyone stop you from gettin yer groove on girl! I don't see how any "real" man with blood running in his veins could even think about telling you to stop. If anything beg you to keep on dancin even during breaks. :p I agree with you. When I'm playin and see people gettin into the groove it really makes me feel good and play better. If you are blocking someones view all you gotta do is keep moving around while dancin and they shouldn't have a problem. Next time we go to see the brothers together you just holler if someone has a problem. I'll take care of em for ya.

Saira, I agree with most of the people here that say if you feel moved to dance, DANCE! Any man who complains about a vision of loveliness such as yourself dancing around and adding to the positive vibe of the show is a DORK!! That being said, you may have to play peace keeper if someone is annoyed with you dancing in your reserved seat. If the majority of the folks in your seating area are standing up, dance away. If everyone is seated, you may want to consider finding a spot where others are getting their groove on and join them in that place. Then you can return to your seat when you want to rest. But, I am with Craig, in that, if we're at the same show and you are being unduly hassled, you come find me.
