Thanks for the reminder! Gonna program the DVR right now. Just to see/hear Janis cryin' and a stompin' her way through "Ball and Chain"...........the performance that made her a star.

The expression on Cass Elliot's face after that is priceless.

I highly recommend the Complete Montery Pop DVD box set. In addition to
the documentary, you also get Jimi's and Otis's full sets.

Might have to watch this today. One question though, this isn't "pledge week" is it? That one of the things I really find annoying about PBS, is they'll have a real good music special, but it gets broken up, for 15-20 minutes at a time, while "lamest host/hostest that God could ever find" trys to guilt you into giving them some money.

Janis doing "Ball and Chain" is priceless, as is Jimi's performance. Check out Mickey Dolenz in the audience.

It's not PLEDGE WEEK HELL in Atlanta, no crappy intermissions in the Stax show last night.

Yes, the footage of Otis at Monterey from stax was great.

My favorite moment, too. You can read her lips as she says "wow!". I think she's sitting next to Jimi at that moment. I also really like Eric Burdon's San Francisco Nights ...."it's an American dream includes Indians, too"

Didn't have it on the PBS station in the DC area. Kind of disappointed.

I missed it too. I did fall asleep watching TV and woke up and saw John Lennon playing with the Rolling Stones, I thought I was dreaming until I woke up again. Everyone in the audience had same kind of clothing. Yellow and Red. Thought I was still dreaming. It was in a TV Studio.
Anyone know which show it was????? LOL or was I dreaming. There was a part with John Lennon and Mick Jagger (very young) talking together.

Reading the liner notes from the Monterey CD box set, several folks remarked that
Otis appeared to be about 20 feet talk with electric sparks flying from him.

An amazing stage presence.

Well we got the answer last night.
That just made my mind up to go get the box set to see the WHOLE show!

What you are describing has to be the Rock & Roll Circus by the Rolling Stones, December 1968 in London. I don't know where that was being shown on television.

The Monterey Pop Festival was not on PBS here in NC last night.

When someone posts something like that it would be helpful to tell where you are or what PBS station is showing a particular program. The schedules vary all over the country in different states and with individual broadcast channels.

It wasn't on my PBS station either, but I have the DVD's of the complete Monterey Festival. They are by far, my absolute favorite rock festival dvd's to watch!

Pixie, is your DVD set a commercial release or what? The Monterey show must have been a smoker from what I have heard. Jimi's show was one of his very best. I have the audio and I noticed right off what an excellent performance that was, and I am not even a big Hendrix fan.

Yes, a commercial release and it's worth every penny! Here's a link
