This was the best DTB show I've ever seen, in my opinion. Derek in particular was completely off the charts, creating sounds I've never heard on guitar, not even Derek's guitar. Here is the setlist, I thought it flowed very well...

Blind, Crippled and Crazy
I Wish I Knew
Crow Jane
Sahib Teri Bandi>Maki Madni>Sahib Teri Bandi (Off the hook!!!)
Leaving Trunk
All I Do
My Favorite Things (best DTB version ever?)
Soul Serenade
Feel So Bad
Stand Back (Duane Trucks joins on drums, stays for rest of set)
For My Brother (best jam of the whole festival, Kofi and Derek exchanging riffs, smokin' hot!)
Up Above My Head

E: Key to the Highway

I'll be writing a review for the festival for my monthly Jambands column, so look out for that. I just need to find my copy of The Superlative Thesaurus, so I don't repeat myself!

Hey guys, I actually do have a line on a recording of Derek's show, and I promise to make it available as soon as I get my hands on it!

I actually know how to burn CDs now, it only took me how many years? Now that I'm joining the 21st century, maybe I'll ditch my horse and buggy for one of those "horseless carriages" I keep hearing about....

I have to agree the 10klf show was a good one. Yet another example of a text-book Derek and Gang Tear-Through. The show showcased their talents in an efficient and thorough manner. Unfortunately, one would think with all the special guests in and around the festival grounds - at least one special guest would have stepped-in if in fact the gang was truly enjoying themselves. (Derek sat-in with Warren and Warren sat-in with Weir that night) I have to agree with fish-fly that the evening before was entirely more enjoyable what with the "Dr." sitting in for a song and Susan & Derek's chemistry teeming throughout the park. At one point Derek leans into Yonrico grinning ear-to-ear and pushing the hair back outta' his face and states (of course I'm lip reading here) " I f^cked that one up!" You see, as with anything, if you're not trying hard, you won't fall down and if you're not falling down once in a while, you're not learning a thing. I like to see Derek (anyone for that matter), pushing the envelope - living outside their comfort zones.

Everyone has different preferences, but one of the things I liked about this show was no special guests, no Susan, just Derek and the boys tearing the roof off the sucker. When you consider that it was an outdoor show, that's not easy to do

It seems like years since I saw a DTB show with that many long guitar solos by Derek, and if special guests would have eaten into my Derek time, I'm glad there weren't any!

Sorry Rob - no offense meant. I rarely see Derek when there are'nt loads of Derek solos - I mean, he does solo every song right?! Anyway, 10Klf show was a ripper NO DOUBT - I'm sure as you say the recordings will prove you (us) to be correct. An eastcoast guy like myself rarely sees special guests with the band and the last time I saw Susan WITH Derek was New Years Eve at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta - so for me it is nice when they can share the stage for a few songs and seep the crowd in their kinectic-chemistry. Like I say, this show was textbook - and most definately worth the 30 hr. motorcycle ride up there! Of course, I spoke with a fella' who traveled from Japan just for the 10Klf DTB performance...I'm glad the show kicked @$$ and was worth all our trips.

Carolina, no offense taken. Everyone's preferences are different, and I did see Derek and Susan play at Wanee, more recently than you did, so it's all good.

For those of you who can't do bittorrents (like me), here is a link to Archive.org..

http://www.archive.org/details/DTB2006-07-21.sen421.flac16

I've been listening to this show all weekend, and it really is something special! I'm touched and proud that the recording posted at this link was recorded by Hittin' the Note's contest winner for 10KLF. He even thanked me by name, and I have to admit I'm happy to be associated with such a great recording of such a great show. Here are a few quick highlights..

The Maki Madni/Sahib medley is from another galaxy, completely above and beyond any other version I've heard. The tones Derek gets during the intro are incredible. I met somebody that weekend that said "Derek needs to lay off the world music stuff." Listen to this to understand exactly how wrong he is.

My Favorite Things does indeed deserve its own thread, and I'm glad somebody gave it one. Some of the very best straight lead playing I've heard from Derek, and a great ensemble performance by the whole band. Check out Kofi's piano solo--Tasty! Derek takes about three different solos, and they are all fantastic. The way the ending melts into Soul Serenade is pretty sweet as well.

Derek's solo in Stand Back is so ridiculous, you just have to hear it to even know what I mean. Better than any live version of the song I've ever heard, period, including the ABB.

As I said in my original post, the exchange of riffs between Kofi and Derek on For My Brother was one of the highlights of the whole weekend. I love when Kofi plays the flute, the tone seems to mesh so well with the tone of Derek's guitar. Pure honey!

Anybody who is unable to download this show and wants a good old-fashioned B&P, let me know and I'll see how many people I can hook up.

I'd really like to thank Rob Johnson for picking me as the VIP ticket winner for 10K fest in Detroit Lakes, MN. It's too bad because of the Airline problems he had getting there I was not able to meet him in person. I really had a really great time at this festival. I sometimes agree that saving the best til the last is best. The Derek Trucks performance that night proves it. Here is a link to the bit torrent of my recording: http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=508511 again thanks to Rob Johnson for the prize.
