I think they're an awesome band. really interesting, unique music. Victor wooten is probably the best bassist I've ever heard the rest of the band are all excellent musicians.

I'd agree that Vic Wooten is one of the best bassists I've ever heard but not sure I agree with the following statement, "the rest of the band are all excellent musicians."

I think Bela Fleck is far better than an "excellent" musician!

The Flecktones are a band that defy categorization, and they're an amazing, amazing band.

I've seen them twice opening for Dave Matthews Band, he loves them, that should say enough. When the entire band came out on stage, Dave went off on a rant about how Bela Fleck & The Flecktones are the greatest band to ever play. The entire band consists of the most amazing musicians alive, a must see.

Bela and the Flecktones are one of my favorites. Great, improvisational live as said and the recordings are good too. While not a Flecktones release, I recommend Bela's Bluegrass Sessions, Tales from the Acoustic Planet Vol 2. A lineup to die for, Sammy Bush, Jerry Douglas, Tony Rice, Vasser Clements, John Hartford and Earl Scruggs, among others.

I think one of the best concerts I ever saw was the Flecktones, Yonder Mtn String Band and Keller Williams at the Fox a few yrs ago. Amazing. Bela turns the banjo into a jazz instrument. To borrow the late Bill Graham's line about the Dead, "they are not the best at what they do, they are the only ones that do what they do."

Bela is a good guy and damn smart individual. Vic is a monster on bass. Jeff Coffin is a hell of a sax player. FRom jazz to funk to bluegrass to progressive rock to out of this world music that defies description, eclectic yet smoking, in a lot of ways they are one if not the only band out there playing the kind of music that Weather Report was known for. Good stuff. "Little Worlds" is a hell of a three-CD album.

GO!

heard Bela on New Grass Revival's last tour...one of the top ten live music experiences. As Jody Payne (Willie's band - had the privilege of meeting him on several occasions when i lived in Mobile) said, commenting on Bela's 10 minute "Metric Lips" - "They didn't mean for anybody else to play that, did they?"

heard Bela with Edgar Meyer in DC, classical music on banjo and contra bass...sick.

with Pat Martino on BET Studio Jams...my sweet spot!

Derek summed it up (not bad for a right wing guy) well.

Great band. Although they lose my attention from time to time. However Bela with other enembles, mainly the new grass & dawg music crowd is some amazing listening. There are some great Sam Bush- billed concert recordings with Bela, Coffin, Victor & even Futch that include renditions of some Bob Marley tunes, & consist of Jorma Kaukonen & Bryn Bright.

Droog's Acoustic Compilation of Allman Brothers Acoustic perofrmances has an awesome Come ON In My kitchen with Bela taking a sweet solo.

Peace~!

I just saw them for the irst time last night,. I have never seen such a tight group of musicians play so many styles of music in one show. And I have never heard so many sounds coaxed out of their instruments. Howard Levy, a former band member sat in on harp, aside from his other playing, he did Amazing Grace soudning like bagpipes...

by all means, these are all VERY gifted musicians and should be seen.

What's goin' on Sean! Coast Guard is great, except for the long ride to get there every week, then back hom for the weekends. The upside is lots of listening time in the car. I got my first tattoo last Friday. I'm gonna post some pics of it when I get them resized for the Media Gallery.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Bela and his 'tones put on a great show! Vic met with my boy a few years back, shaking his hand and talking 'bass talk' with him. Very cool group. Bela is one helluva banjo player.

But, as much as I enjoy listening to Mr. Wooten slap and pop, my heart rests wtih Oteil. His bottom end, in my opinion, is one that is hard to be topped.

I have at least three Flectones CDs, and they are in rotation often. Go see 'em if you have the chance!

Peace...

Like everyone else has said, an excellent band.

Quite frankly, I listen for Jeff's and Victor's contributions just as much as Bela's. I wouldn't mind hearing them do sort of a "Yonrico Scott Band" type deal . . . in other words, "The Flecktones," sans Bela . . . just as a one-shot sort of thing or something to do while Bela is pursuing other projects. Love that bass and horn, and the Future Man is no slouch, either.

Peace.
