Just curious what people think of Bonnie Raitt. I have always enjoyed her music but would like to see her get alittle more on the blues side. She seems to be more contemporary adult pop anymore...her CD's have a very "produced" feel about them. I would like to see more of an edge.

You'd have enjoyed her like I did the first time I saw her. It was just her and a bass player. They were on a bill in Philadelphia for a benefit concert in August 1971. About as basic as you can get. A short set, because of all the acts on the bil. Wet Willie, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, and the Allman Brothers Band headlining.What a night!!

Love Bonnie Riatt - both the way back days and her more recent stuff. She always brings it to her live shows and surrounds herself with excellent band of musicians - great performer and very nice lady. And when she does John Prines Angel from Montgomery I just want to cry, it's so beautiful.

I just added Streelights to the ol' IPOD today. Been a Bonnie fan for quite some time. I have some Bonnie shows from the early 70's that are gems (thanks to SantaCruzBlues!!) I saw her once where Sippie Wallace sat in and did Women Be Wise. That was cool.

Turn down the lights;
Turn down the bed.
Turn down these voices
Inside my head.

Lay down with me;
Tell me no lies.
Just hold me close;
Don't patronize.

Don't patronize me.

'Cuz I can't make you love me
If you don't.
You can't make your heart feel
Something it won't.
Here in the dark
In these final hours,
I will lay down my heart
And I'll feel the power;
But you won't.
No, you won't.
'Cuz I can't make you love me
If you don't.

I'll close my eyes,
Then I won't see
The love you don't feel
When you're holding me.

Morning will come,
And I'll do what's right;
Just give me till then
To give up this fight.

And I will give up this fight.

It was, Deb. The show was a Michigan State University and Sippie (real name, Beulah) lived in Detroit at the time. I remember reading an article in the Detroit Free Press about her. Her phone number was listed in the book and you could call her up. I never had the nerve. RIP, Beulah.

That's a great John Prine song. Her duet with him is one of my all time faves. Bonnie is the real deal as far as the blues goes, or any other style for that matter. And man, is she a beauty!

Very cool, Terri! One of the things I really respect about Bonnie is the emense respect she has for those who paved the way - so many of those folks ended up without a dime due to early music business managings and she's done a lot to bring attention to that situation and give them a hand up. Go Bonnie!

Bonnie is up there with the best of them all in my humble opinion.........

she's a player extraordinaire and a writer amongst the very best.

I saw her first in Charlottesville, Va. in '75 - her band was LITTLE FEAT.........hollee schitt!!!

she lived up in Marin County near Larkspur for a very long time........once I saw her join John Mooney(major slide player) at a very small club for a Sunday afternoon show......two drummers, bass and John & Bonnie going at it on the slide........WHOA did she bring it!!

she has a song titled "Hell To Pay" from her album Longing in Their Hearts........check it out - it smokes and tells a great story.

I guess that about somes it up for me..............

Love Bonnie

Bonnie is one of my favorite slide players. My dream is to see her on stage with the Brothers and really get into an extended jam. She can cook, I really wish she would let loose and jam with some top notch musicians.
