Am I the only ABB fan(besides my wife) who is not happy over this DMB / Piedmont park mess? Why am I upset? This appears to be the only ABB Atlanta show for 2007 – if you can even call it that. It’s more like they are a footnote for Dave Matthews’ big night in Atlanta. The DMB fan base is closer to a 90s Hootie and the Blowfish / yuppie fan base than an ABB fan base, and the ambivalence of the DMB fans for the ABB will be felt by both the ABB fans and the band themselves. That crowd will react to the superior musicianship going on in front of them by looking at their watches and wondering when this “supporting act” is going to leave the stage. We attended the Chattanooga Riverbend festival last year and witnessed a "non ABB crowd" first hand. It helped make for my least favorite ABB show since the '89 reunion. If this turns out to be the only Atlanta ABB show this year, I will be sorely disappointed. We simply cannot afford to make a trip to Charlotte or Raleigh to see a “real” ABB show.

If anyone reading this thinks I’m acting like a spoiled brat and should just suck it up and go anyway, I’ve already been thru this (Riverbend), and I’m not doing it again. Unless things change, here’s one diehard ABB fan who is very disappointed with their choices for tour stops this year.

Hey man, I understand the frustration. All I can offer is that they might announce another ATL show later in the summer. Remember, they played Lakewood (HiFi Buys) in October in 2005. I've not given up hope for a more traditional ATL show this year.

Number one, while their music doesn't always require it, I know for a fact that members of the DMB are excellent musicians, to the point that I wouldn't call them inferior to the members of the ABB in any way. The music they choose to play is another matter. Secondly, the DMB fans NEED a good dose of the ABB in my opinion. Hopefully Matthews and the ABB will jam somewhere along the way.

Wish I had the opportunity to see ABB and DMB at Piedmont Park!!! (btw - am not a yuppie, I'm am old hippie if anything. I have seen Dave a few times and he nd his band put on great shows. And he and Warren seem to have a pretty close friendship so I would be some jamming across bands will happen.) Enjoy!

I've stayed out of these threads because I'm not a DMB fan, but I did think one thing sucked about this deal - the presale was for DMB fanclub members only. I guess that doesn't matter at a 50,000-seat concert, but I thought that was really inconsiderate given that it's Piedmont Park.

Well, here's my take on it: SCREW what the "non-ABB" crowd thinks and just enjoy the Brothers! It's about the music, man.

That is all.

Oh BTW I am not a yuppie or a trust fund baby . . . maybe just a fan of a lot of different music . . . to each his own

Not true. I bought a presale ticket through the Piedmont Park Conservancy at no extra cost and that info was readily available here and in the Atlanta newspaper. I hope the DMB fans are not as described. I am disappointed only that it's a general admission show; at my age I like my personal space. Also holding out hope for some other show here but I see it as unlikely. I'm sure we'll get some Mule or DTB a little later.

For those Peachheads living in the Atlanta area, I hope you get another show(s) at the Fox or someplace like that. Musically, your experience would be better at a venue like the Fox rather than Piedmont Park with DMB. That having been said, it might be a really cool experience to see the band at the park where they played almost 40 years ago. While many of the DMB fans will talk incessantly, get blithering drunk, and generally be an irritant; I think there is one considerable upside. THERE WILL BE MANY MORE WOMEN AT THE SHOW! I've seen the Brothers about 50 times and its usually a male dominated crowd. If I can see the Brothers while I'm surrounded by girls, I'll put up with the talking etc.

I guess this is a long way of saying that every show is different and you just have to roll with it. You can't control the weather, the set list, the crowd, etc. So you might as well try to enjoy it as best as possible.

I've always had a great time at DMB concerts. many times both as headliners and part of a
festival line-up.

Like others have said, these Cats can flat out play.

And Dave is now a member of Farm Aid, God Bless Him.

DMB fan either, good or bad, they ain't sellin' me no record...
Now, the ABB in Piedmont Park....well, if I could be there I would.
Enjoy the spirit of the venue....DA and BO will be there.

I too cannot resist responding to this.
Who says a Hootie crowd isn't preferable to an ABB crowd??? And I am speaking as an ABB fan! After this year's Beacon run, I will take the Hootie crowd any day. 70% of the crowd at teh Beacon was just fine this year. Completely normal + good folks. But 30% is a HUGE number and the 30% I encountered were not "fine" but TOTAL #$%h&*(s. Not Rude. Not (just) drunk. I not obnoxious. I mean out of control what-is-your-PROBLEM??? #%^h)(&*s! It is amazing the impact these people had on not only my experience, but anyone around them.
I have been to the Beacon almost every year since '92 and it has gotten worse and worse and NEVER as bad as it was this year.
So you know what?? Bring on the Hootie-Tootie fans!! At least they (one would think) are good normal people.

No way will I be cramming into Piedmont Park for this one........parking will probably be horrendous.

I'm happy for the folks that are Happy about the show........but you would have to hold a 9mm to my head for me to listen to Dave Mathews sing....great bunch of musicians ... i'm sure they are. But not my cup of tea.

I'd rather see the ABB open up for Bjork...LOL !

But thats okay...i'm sure a great many folks are glad..and thats fine with me.

...axeman---this is one subject i realize that is percieved as negative or as a complainer's opinion & i don't mean to provoke, hurt anyone or insult people's sensibilities--but i agree 100% with you on the beacon crowds & the downhill spiral on decent behavior, but i always thought it was primarily a NYC problem...i'm not well traveled since the 70's!!!

The same thing happened last year with the Allman's opening for Tom Petty... lots of griping about Petty and his fan base- that he had no business being on a bill with the Allman's, how could the Allman's open for Petty, etc.

While I am not a Petty fan, the fact was the Allman's shows were damn good, although maybe a bit shorter than if they headlined, I left after a few Petty songs, got home early, and still had a great time and didn't feel like I was cheated in the least. The last of these shows, in Camden, Petty came out for Highway 61 with the brothers and Gregg did Little Red Rosster(?) with Petty, both of which were great.

Warren has done a number of shows with DMB, so there will surely be some guesting back and forth. With the DMB yupiie fans will getting exposed to the Allman's the band will certainly pick up some new fans.

Opinions are welcome and welcome to the site. Seems to me you are just protectional about something you love , that's all good, but these things happen - I was the same about Clapton and Trucks, pissed me off, like someone telling a good secret and ruining something special - that normally only people who were looking for it would normally find, and now Trucks is a household name - good for him ... bad for me.

Presale ends today. Anybody who signed up for the Piedmont Park CONSERVANCY email got the password for the CONSERVANCY presale - wink wink nudge nudge knowwotimean knowwotimean. The presale tix get you in the door an hour before the rest of the throng - supposedly.

i just heard the ad on Z93 while at lunch today, and they only played the dmb, while mentioning ABB - c'mon DAVEFM - gimme a break!!!!!!!! dmb puts on quite a show i've heard but don't really care for the tunes so much. fanbase is definitely a bit too la-la for me. YDLM > WHIPPING POST!!!!!!!!!!! for all the dmb fans.

someone may be able to better explain this, but normally when a band plays a city, part of the promoter's(?) contract stipulates they won't play another show in said city or w/in XX number of miles of that city for a cretain period of time 2-3months(??). so they don't have to deal with getting one concert undersold by folks awaiting the next one. i would love for the ABB to play another gig, but i'm not holding my breath. everyone loves the fox, but i wish they'd book the dang Tabernacle for a week and let us tear the place apart.

I do hope this thing starts ontime, and they don't hold the show to let the people in since it'll be a cluster. just let the ABB play some nice coming in music and let it loose. just like for their opening set of Atlanta Pop. Too bad they're not playing a closing set at Piedmont park after dmb: Good morning!!!! > Mountain Jam!!!

And for those that don't want to deal with the dmb crowd, there's always the option of going old school: just bring your blanket and cooler and find a spot somewhere else in the park to listen - the park is HUGE! it's gonna be one helluva scene down there that day. should be a blast for all comers. and maybe like the Atlanta Pop fest, they'll just make the announcement that everyone needs to take care of each other, cause they just opened the gates
