Ok, folks... You are about to embark on a journey, a long one that will probably occupy a bug chunk of your life. You aren't allowed to bring much with you - just that which is vital to your survival. Of course, if you read this, it means you are on the ABB Message Board, which must mean that music IS vital for YOUR survival.

That being said, you are given one CD Wallet, one that is able to hold a MAXIMUM of 25 CD's. What CD's do you bring with you?

Now, none of this "Well, I can't choose, so I'll list my top 40..."! No! Just the 25 CD's that you can't live without.

Here are mine:
1) "One Man Dog" - James Taylor
2) "Harvest Moon" - Neil Young
3) "Eat A Peach" - the Allman Brothers Band
4) "Blood Sugar Sex Magic" - The Red Hot Chili Peppers
5) "The Sky Is Crying" - Stevie Ray Vaughn
6) "Where It All Begins" - The Allman Brothers
7) "Who's Next" - The Who
8) "Abbey Road" - The Beatles
9) "The White Album" - The Beatles
10) "The White Album" - The Beatles
11) "The Best of Elvis Costello" - Elvis Costello
12) "Born To Run" - Bruce Springsteen
13) "Born In the USA" - Bruce Springsteen
14) "Hourglass" - James Taylor
15) "Amorica" - the Black Crowes
16) "Live at the Fillmore East" - The Allman Brothers
17) "Crosby, Stills & Nash" - CSN
18) "The Road Goes On Forever" - The Allman Brothers
19) "The Road Goes On Forever" - The Allman Brothers
20) "Abraxas" - Santana
21) "The Deep End, Vol. 1" - Gov't Mule
22) "Grace of My Heart" - Movie Soundtrack
23) "Appetite for Destruction" - Guns 'n Roses
24) "Searching For A Rainbow" - Marshall Tucker Band
25) "Righteous Love" - Joan Osborne

Well, I'm going to lunch, so I'll do this later (wanted to grab the first spot, heh).

Shouldn't it be 24? I've never seen a cd case of any size that holds an odd number of discs. Actually, this won't be that hard for me. All of my music is in wallets, binders, etc. I've got:
1) 1 x 208 (non abb-family storeboughts),
2) 1 x 200 (all abb, and I'm out of space)
3) 1 x 96 Dead, JID, Phil and Friends
4) 1 x 64 - just Mule
5) 1 x 64 - just DTB and a couple of Frogwings
6) 1 x 48 - various trades not in above categories
7) 1 x 48 - "The Great Forty-Eight"

The great 48 contains my absolute favorite discs. I got tired of hauling all that stuff around, so I assembled my creme de la creme, so I could carry my favorites with me everywhere. So, in essence, I've already done this - just have to chop half of them - which may prove more challenging than I anticipate. I'll let you know after lunch.

"burp"

Excuse me.

Okay, here we go, 24 favorite discs - in no particular order other than the fact that I will remember the most important first.

1) ABB at Fillmore East
2) ABB Eat a Peach
3) ABB 8/16/94 10-song compilation
4) ABB 7/22/00 disc one (Derek and Jimmy on Jessica, Franklin's and Dreams)
5) Robben Ford - Discovering the Blues
6) Johnny Winter - Third Degree
7) Muddy Waters - Blues Sky
8) Sonny Terry - Whoopin'
9) Four Non-Blondes - Bigger, Better, Faster, More?
10) Emerson Lake and Palmer - Brain Salad Surgery
11) Yes - Keys to Ascension I disc 1
12) Yes - Keys to Ascension II disc 1
13) Genesis - My homemade disc of Gabriel-era favs (incl, Dancing with the Moonlit Night, the Musical Box, the Knife, The Colony of Slipperman and others)
14) Frank Zappa - Apostrophe'/Overnight Sensation
15) Frank Zappa - Joe's Garage, Acts 1-3, disc 1
16) Pink Floyd - Is There Anybody Out There - The Wall Live disc 1
17) Pink Floyd - ITAOT, disc 2
18) Derek Trucks Band - Joyful Noise
19) George Thorogood - Let's Work Together - Live
20) Chris Smither - Another Way to Find You
21) King Crimson - Lark's Tongues in Aspic
22) Steffan Grossman, Black Melodies on a Clear Afternoon
23) Cisco Houston - Sings the Songs of Woody Guthrie
24) Bob Dylan - Another Side of Bob Dylan

Damn! Another "favorites" list! This is just like the "greatest bands" list. I'll give you 25 (in NO PARTICULAR ORDER) that come to mind NOW. But If I were to make the list again in an hour, it would probably be entirely different.

1. Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band –the Beatles
2. Eat a Peach- The Allman Brothers Band
3. Filmore East –the Allman Brothers Band
4. Summerteeth –Wilco
5. Hot Rats –Frank Zappa

8. Tapestry –Carole King
9. Kind Of Blue –Miles Davis
10. Sketches of Spain –Miles Davis
11. Trilogy (box set) –Taj Mahal
12. Sticky Fingers –the Rolling Stones
13. Blow by Blow –Jeff Beck
14. Cactus –One way or Another
15. Giant Steps –John coltrane
16. Box Set (can I do this? Contains all albums!) –Steely Dan
17. Highway 61 Revisited –Bob Dylan
18. Blonde on Blonde –Bob Dylan
19. Yessongs –Yes
20. The London Sessions –Muddy Waters
21. Bop til You Drop –Ry Cooder

Hmmmmm, since no restrictions were set on sources of power nor on format, off hand, I would "cheat" and since you can get more than 10 hours of decent, not perfect, audio on a disc using mp3s , I would fill them 25 discs with tons of fun.....must reach for new batteries

No you can't Dino.....

Greatest hits are "essential" as in the case of Clapton.

It's one CD..with all you need.......I would not take any one single release from him..but I got to have Spoonfull, Badge and Blues power...plus the others. Plus why could a person not choose but one by each artist...if you have room in your cd case..then so be it....your trying to be a dictator and rule over what we can take........thats not fair.

You can only take 10 now Deano !

It's my damn trip and I will take what I want If I can't have it my way..then I'm not going...and If I don't go..then my sack of green stickies stay with me.

But if you choose box sets...you should have to list each CD in it....

Include whatever the hell you want, just make sure it totals up to no more than 25 CD's...

A boxed set wouldn't count as 1, but rather, it would count for as many discs as were in the boxed set. ie, "Dreams" would count as 4, and so on...

I know I'm going to be chastized for this, cause I haven't mentioned before that I like rap too, so here it goes in no order:

Hey Man...to each his own....I'd be lying if I said that I did not have all of Public Enemy's stuff on cassette.....

Plus now that you mention it...I would have to have room for Dr. Dre's "The Chronic"..which stayed in my CD played for a month when I got it.

I'm not into rap as much now...being 47...but I still like some of the early stuff....

Good choice with that Pearl Jam "Ten" too......

Now OneWay might get on that ass about the Rap stuff..haha. ...he came down on me pretty hard about the Bee Gee's...

SBowen gets points for the most diverse list so far. I'll check in with my entry later, since I've got to go home soon - this'll definitely take more than the 10 minutes I have right now.

Man, that was brutal. How about giving us another 10 or 15 albums??
