Listening to many of the instrumental songs from the years
of music by the Allman Brothers Band. What is the 'best of the best'
in your opinion? Would appreciate everyone keep to the topic.

Obviously, I ADORE Hot'lanta and IMOER from AFE, but I listened to Enlightened Rogues the other day and got turned on by Pegasus for the first time in a while.

I like the ones in the key of E. Like Elizabeth Reed and Egypt.

Seriously, I think "Jessica" is my favorite instrumental tune of all time! That one in the key of J!

This works for me. Plus High Falls and Egypt.

Been lots of discussion around my little world last couple days about the ABB/DMB pairing.
My dream set for the Brothers 2 hours would be a show of songs performed by the ABB in Piedmont Park back in the day. But, for an encore, either Woman Across the River or Rocking Horse. Like Whipping Post, these are not pure instrumentals, but they damn sure ain't ballads either. And they would make the statement, "Follow that, boys."

Even thought I like all the instrumentals (can they really be considered 'songs')
Jessica is what turned me onto the Brothers.

So there it is ...

A little shameless self promotion here

a couple years ago I put together a 5 disc compilation of instrumentals through the years with songs by every lineup.

There was a vine, I don't know if it's died or is still going

for me little martha just seems to be in a class by itself. Its a soft, acoustic piece that is out of the studio...and not to mention unbelievably beautiful.
This is such a tough question, but I think my favorite is In Memory of Elizabeth Reed. Then there are a few that follow closely behind- Hot 'Lanta, Jessica, and Mountain Jam among others. their catalog of insturmentals alone is mind blowing.

It's MUCH too short.

Jeez, that's a toughy. I'd have to say either "Jessica" or "Mountain Jam". The chrod progressions throughout MJ just give me chills everytime I hear it. Was MJ written by Dickey, alone?
