I just realized that June of 2007 - June 20th to be exact - will be the 10 year Aniiversary of Oteil being a member of The ABB.
It's hard to believe a full decade has passed since Oteil took over the Bass Player duties from Allen Woody but that certainly is the case.

It seems like just yesterday when we saw Oteil on stage with The Brother's for the first time. It felt a little weird seeing Oteil and Jack up there instead of Warren and Woody but pretty quickly I realized Oteil was by far the best man for the job. I became amazed at his precison chops, his ability to work with our BIG drum section and provide thunder in the pocket, his unbelievable improvisational skills and his passion for his instrument and the music he plays. Jack left within a couple of years, but Oteil remains to this day and he is as much a part of The ABB's sound and legacy as anyone.

We have been blessed with mant great bass players over the years...Berry, Lamar, Rook and Woody are all among the best ever, but Oteil has played longer than any of them - in some cases much longer. He is also the most technically advanced of any of the others which is a main reason why The Brothers are reaching new levels of musicianship unequaled in Rock or Blues music. With Oteils incredible talent, touch and phrasing he easily turns Rock and Blues music into what we have now termed, "Bluesion"...a simple yet perfect description of this bands sound. Not only does he provide musical precision, but also an ((ENERGY)) to the stage. How cool is it when we see Oteil dancing and bopping barefooted on stage, feeling every glorious note? He is also a hell of a nice guy to boot and frequently chats and mingles wth the fans and always makes a Beacon party appearance.

There are lots of incredibly talented Bass players in this world, but for me, there is nobody I would rather see in in our band playing our music than Oteil Burbridge!

...So Happy 10 years Oteil...And on to the next decade!

Feel free to join in the celebration and post some thoughts on Oteil's many contributions to The ABB...Thank you!

Congrats to Oteil! In my humble opinion, he continues to improve within the context of this band. Don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE ARU fan and have always loved his playing, but I think it's taken him a while to adapt his style to this particular gig.

I don't think I've ever seen him play better with the ABB than he did at Jazz Fest. He's always been a great finesse player with spectacular jazz chops, but in my opinion he has come a long way in terms of bringing the thunder in a large rock concert setting. He was shaking the Fairgrounds with his big bass sound, and Berry Oakley and Allen Woody would have been proud.

I remeber watching the Beacon DVD and he seemed so excited to be in the Allman Brothers. He said he showed up
and Dickey asked if he new any Allman songs. Oteil said no. Dickey said how do you grow up in Alabama and not know
any Allman Brothers songs?? He said he had to try out which he was nervous about.

Thank you Oteil!!!

FYI - Oteil didn't grow up in Alabama. Cograt's to Oteil! The Michael Jordan of bass players! He's got a pretty fair side-band, too! You can see Oteil and the Peacemakers this Sunday at the Moss Rock Preserve in Hoover, Al. Y'know I'll be there!

I believe the first ever Jack-Otiel show was at Oak Mtn. I didn't know about the change in advance, but distinctly remember how electric I went when I saw Jackie and his beret.
Great show that night, a notch above the previous 2 years IMHO. They broke into High Falls that night, me and a few other old-timers in the arena jumped straight up, made eye contact.

Thanks Otiel for a great 10 years.

It's really weird seeing this post because just this morning I was playing Oteil's tender "Little Martha" solo in the middle of Black Hearted Woman on the new Wanee discs. I was thinking just like EddieP says that he is the senior ABB bass player now and how talented he is and how lucky we are to have him.

If you remember, we could easily have lost Oteil a couple of years ago. Mr. Burbridge, I hope you will please reconsider getting on a street bike. Bad karma history in general for ABB bassists, both on bikes and off. BTW I did meet Oteil very briefly backstage as well in San Francisco, 2002. What a nice guy. We love ya, man, keep it going.

He hit the note at the 9 Beacon shows this year for me. I really have been quite impressed by his playing and his attitude on stage. He just has a great time and it is a pleasure to see. I never saw the other bass players in the band so I certainly can't compare, but Oteil brings the music to the people as far as I can see. I also love him in his band and think he should sing more. He has a nice voice. Anyway, Happy ABB Anniversary Oteil. Ride on, safely, except when you play your guitar. :-) Angela

Thanks for the reminder here, Eddie!

Happy ABB Anniversary, Oteil! Thanks for all the great music (with the Bros, the Peacemakers, whatever). ABB fans are lucky to have you on board and you have been a joy to hear/watch in concert!

Eddie is correct - not enough people posted to this Thread. The "comparison game" is a tough one. That said, I feel that Oteil has become the best since BO. Add to that what a genuinely nice guy he is. I can't say too much about Lamar, but I was lucky enough to spend some time with Woody after the infamous Zakk Wylde show. Great guy and what a loss...........RIP

Oteil (from Egypt - TRUTH!) is one incredible bass player, but more than that, he is one of the nicest and best and finest people you will ever meet. Congratulations to Oteil Burbridge, and keep kicking that bass, bro!

Hey Bill, how you doin' bro?

I noticed Mr. Burbridge hasn't signed in to HTW for a while, so if you see or hear from him in your Peachy travels, please convey our warmest regards to him.
