I just got an email on this today, and fortunately do not have any plans for tomorrow, so I'm gonna get a little (or maybe a lot) of Dickey tomorrow night. Anyone else?

I live 20 minutes away & will be going up tonight to get my tix. My brother plays there regularly & tonight they have him out on the deck from 6:30-9:30

Dickey rocked last time I saw him at the peak.

Enjoy the show!

Andrew

I guess they are overdue... I'm gonna have to call Child Protective Services to report denial of music.

Just got back from the show. The train is back on the track. It was an express. Great show. I mean really great show. Dickey was hot, the band was hot. Pedro is a monster on bass. Dickey wrote IMOER. And he still owns it. I am a very big Warren/Derek fan, but tonight this was Dickey's song. Then he played another set. WOW...

Too tired to write more, but you get the picture.

That's good to hear. I'm glad you enjoyed the show, and I'm glad Dickey was on point. He has written my absolute favorite ABB tunes of all time.

I only wish I had these things to say after the Atlanta/Duluth show. I was saddened.

Nice to read a good review. I've said in other posts, when I saw him close out last year's tour he was smokin'. You're right about Pedro too, he's really great.

Speaking of positive posts, here's a bit more detail, after a few hours of rest.

First of all, the venue is in the middle of nowhere in the Poconos- big ski area in the winter, whitewater rafting and such in the summer. the place is on top of a hill (mountain??), hence the name Penn's Peak. Beautiful views from the deck outside.

They have a lot of country shows- Gary Allen, George Jones, tribute bands, and everything from Little Feat to Ted Nugent to Raymond the Amish Comic:

And Dickey Betts. The place was about a third sold- maybe 400 - 500 people. I'm sure there were a lot of folks who didn't know he was no longer the Allmans. Not a great start.

It took a couple of numbers for the band to loosen up, but then they rocked. Dickey was in fine form, and totally (but peacefully) in charge of the show. He rocked through Statesboro, One Way Out, Blue Sky and others in the first set, before closing with IMOER. As much as I like Derek and Warren doing it, Dickey gave me goosebumps. the Great Southern version of Jabuma was more like two separate solos, with two very good drummers.

As I said earlier, Pedro was a monster all night on the bass, and sang a rollicking Hoochie Koochie Man. He doesn't have quite the heft of Warren Haynes, but he was great. Also did a bit of scat in the second set, but I could not hear the vocals very well, as the sound up front was not so good- need those front fills Mr. Sound Man...

Dickey was playing his Les Paul for all but No One to Run With, when he played a Strat. All the slide duties were handled by Andy. MIke was great on the keys, especially on Jessica. He also did lead vocals onm at least one number, but I don't remember the song.

Duane and Andy took their solos in turn, Dickey was very generous with them. I have heard people say Duane looks bored. Shy is more like it, and talking to him after the show, it was clear he was having a good time, very much into it and a bit protective of his father's privacy.

Dickey really cut loose on the Ramblin Man encore. It was very cool to see him in the legs-apart stance, knees bent, leaning back just a bit, when he really gets into his playing.

After all the negative posting about the train wreck performances, I was a bit apprehensive going into the show, but there certainly was a lot of positive energy in that room last night, along with a good dose of magic.

The show was taped, and I'm looking forward to sharing it, when I get it.

PS I believe there will be a 2 CD release of stuff from the current tour on June 6th- look for it at the DB website.

I saw DB & GS on 5/22 and reported the same. Train Wreck...I don't think so. The band did a great job and we all thoroughly enjoyed the show.

Glad you also enjoy them. They are still playing some sweet music.

Seeing them tomorrow, and I'm packing the big lens.

Heh heh.

I'm hoping to get Dickey to sign a shot I took at BluesFest 2003, the last time he played Syracuse.

Looking forward to seeing my Canucky friends in Clinton Square.

I can almost smell the Dinosaur BBQ.
