this is a sort of spin off from Birds thread today...

are the ABB shows getting a bit stale but you still go because of meeting pals at pre show parties, tailgates etc?...

the show is always the cherry on top of the gathering for me. i've gone to the Beacon for the party and skipped the show in the past.

At this point I pretty much still attend ABB shows for the March tradition. I don't see any outside of the Beacon .. summer gigs etc ...

90% of the time, it's scene first, show second for me.

I wonder if the band gets the "scene first" vibe from some of the audiences?

I always heard that the Beacon was the Mecca of any Allman Brothers fan. They were right, my first Beacon and I met soooo many new people I nearly forgot about the two shows I was going to.

Obviously, I go for the shows, but the scene is great, too! Sometimes the scene gets the attention for a while, but then I'm back to the show. I try to get a nice balance of show/scene.

The Dead certainly did. "It's a party and we're just the entertainment".

50/50

I'm way more hardcore than most of my friends. Always a great party but I'm usually the one heading in early.

Music is the primary reason but lately the fine people at shows make it even more enjoyable. But once the music starts its front and center.

And it helped kill Jerry Garcia. Jerry felt a real responsibility to keep the party going, as it was the only way the Dead could afford the outrageous overhead that came with being the Grateful Dead. Truth is, Jerry might still be living and making music, if he and the other members of the Dead, would have shut it down for a couple of years, and allowed Jerry to get healthy. Certainly a lot of the Deads music suffered in the 80s and 90s because of Jerry's health issues, but the "party must go on as bills need to be paid", and for many of the "fans", it really was about the "scene" anyway.

Eggs Zack Lee.

Been going to ABB shows for years, but since 2001 I've been as excited about meeting up with my friends from this web site.

One of the highlights for me was going to BoboFest in Pixberg, 2005.

That incredible gathering of people made me determined to make the pilgrimage to The Beacon.

And that was the most fun weekend I've ever had.

Great people, great music, good times.

I will enjoy every show I see for one reason or another, whether it's for the show or the gathering.

Looking forward to Pixberg in August, then Darien.

The music comes first. It is the common factor that allows everything else to happen. Everything else like this wonderful board is a bonus. If the music wasn't good anymore I wouldn't go anymore. The music is still amazing !!!!

I go for the show, but the scene is typically an added bonus.
