OK players....what y'all think?

Could Curlin be for real? Hard to go with a colt with so little experience. Didn't bother Barbaro, though. I'm leaning toward passing. Gotta' watch the odds....if he takes down enough $$$$, might be good to play some of the more experienced guys in the place and show pools. Methinks he could run out.

We're going to the Derby and Johnny wants to place a bet...first, where do we find the $2 window and who's running?

Haven't given it a real good look(of course,we need official entries amongst other things),but I've had my eye on Scat Daddy for awhile.

I have some happy family news. My mother, at 69, has been a lifelong horse lover, and was the successful bidder for Derby tix, housing and air at an Atlanta equestrian charity auction. She will be going up Thurs for her first Derby. She's so excited and I am for her. Look for her; she'll be the one in the hat.

The hat....yes, I'll be certain to recognize her!

Congratulations to her....I hope it's all she's dreamed it would be!

I just checked out the horses and Scat Daddy stands out for some reason. That means, the way it works for me, either he'll win it....or come in last! That's why I never bet!!

Randy,
Looks like it's on the Deuce 5-6pm
Unfortunately for me, the Derby will be taking place at the exact same time the Brothers hit the stage at Jazzfest. First time since I can remember that I won't be watching. Sad part is it obviously takes place at The Fairgrounds and they won't be showing any races or taking any bets (OTB is closed)
Hope you all make some money.

Wow--what a conflict.
Almost as bad as the JFD being on BC Day (again).
When you have to get up early after the Fri. night concert and drive to the OTB to get down (again).
When you got to tie up a bunch of dough because you can't hang around to collect after each race because you gotta' get back to the Jam (again).
You gotta' want it.

btw, one of my best BC days ever was spent at The Fairgrounds OTB, 1988. Ray Sebille and Great Communicator....

I'm leaning towards Circular Quay. the late runner who won the Louisiana Derby.

I always love those later runners, but in the Derby, i really love them.

man, the most exciting two minutes in sports, and that's the damn truth!!!!

having a wager on the derby is the best.

not just hype, but this race is the ultimate.

for a few reasons.

one, the large field. hell, it takes you a minute to even find your horse.

and then the distance, and that long straight away.

and down the stretch they come!!!!!! there's nothing like the final long stretch at the derby.

I've only won two times. Sunny's Halo, back in the early 80's, and Silver Charm in the 90's

My worse loss was when i had 100 on "Bet Twice" at 9 to 1, who was leading, when Alysheba ran her down on the stretch.

I usually try to get a C-note down on one of the horses, two years ago, mine came in well back, but turns out my wife had 20 bucks on the winner, who paid off big. Giacomo, something like 50 to one?

so, she bought me drinks that weekend...

Man, that's great!!!

I was hoping for a Derby forum. I am leaning towards four horses - Tiago, Hard Spun, Circular Quay and Scat Daddy in no set order for now. I will wait for the so called experts in the papers to pick their horses before my final decesion. I usually throw in a long shot in one of my triple bets (Cowtown Cat) to make for a lucky pay day if I do hit.

About eight-nine years ago I hit for about $1,900 on the Derby and about $ 750 on the Preakness. I just missed the Belmont when I had the 1 and 3 horses. My Uncle Joe was amazed at my luck that year. (I did have a ten year winning steak going from 1992-2002. I hit at least one of the three triple crown races for $150+ every year. I told my ex-wife that it was because we split up in October 1991). Ha Ha -

These nothing like singing along to Old Knetucky Home and watching the race after a good ABB warm up.

Peace, and good luck to all. See you again on Friday.
JIM

OK....after the draw, I got it down to only 5 horses if I toss Curlin
Gonna' pretty much stick with the chalk every whichaway. There'll be enough in all the pools to pay nicely if Curlin spends the afternoon checking out the infield crowd.
Wish Any Given Sat. could have gotten a better draw. Might put a little on Nobiz Like Showbiz and Scat Daddy.

Best wishes to all--if you take the same pony as me.

My mom's sources have confirmed that the Queen will be there. And this is no lie, she is bringing 100 pairs of white gloves because they get dirty shaking hands. Filthy commoners!

I once knew well a lady who ran away from home here with a jockey's agent, to Hot Springs. She started off mucking stalls, became an exercise rider for Shug McGauchy (sp),
became a waitress at the best area of Oaklawn, was chosen to occasionally work the gambling boat on Lake Oaticha (sp). Politicians, retired mafia, high rollers. Each waitress had a guy personally assigned to her to change the long gloves every time she came off the floor. Dozens of pairs a night for each.
