Some of the best Allman Brothers shows I've ever seen have been at Jazz Fest, and I'm really looking forward to Saturday's show! I'm glad they have a two-hour slot, which should give them plenty of room to play all the songs I want to hear

Don't Want You No More>
Revival
Walk On Gilded Splinters>
Hoochie Coochie Man
Statesboro Blues w/ Taj Mahal
Stormy Monday w/ Taj Mahal
Egypt
Desdemona w/Chuck Leavell
Jessica w/ Chuck Leavell
Dreams w/ Branford Marsalis
Elizabeth Reed w/ Branford Marsalis

Encore: Layla w/ Chuck Leavell

Sounds good to me! What do you think?

Hey Rob! That's a pretty smokin' set! One thing- usually when Branford Marsalis sits in on Dreams that cuts out that roarin' guitar solo.

Dr John on Guilded Splinters, now there's a great idea!! Maybe that'll happen at the Mule/Dr John show on Satruday night, with Gregg sitting in, of course. Brent, are you going to be there?

I'll be there! And yes, I could certainly see that happening....or, maybe "Right Place, Wrong Time" with horns??

The original Guilded Splinters is so warped. Voodoo music at its best. I'd love to see a little of that, cross over into an ABB version.

Hey slowhand6, I may love Branford, but I'm no fool! Every version of "Dreams" with Branford that I have has a great sax solo AND a great Derek Trucks slide guitar solo. Check out the Raleigh Instant Live from 8/10/03 for an example. Double your pleasure, double your fun!

axeman, I feel you, but I don't think they'll let the ABB play for 3 hours If they can fit all of the songs I mentioned into 2 hours, I'll be impressed.

Every Chuck show is epic.
Add a Taj "Leavin Trunk" - the 3.17.06 was the best tune of the night, imo.

Maybe a NOLA Soul Stew>YDLM

I can't tell you which one, of course, or I'd have to kill you This will be SWEET!

ugh!!! As much as I love the ABB and as much as I love this song, the Brothers should forget about this one. They just don't do it justice. I know this next comment will send people into a conniption, but I think Widespread Panic blows the doors off of "Gilded Splinters" whereas the ABB's version just barely scratches OK. The Brothers should definately lay off of this one and use that time at the show for something else.

Same with "the Night They Drove Old Dixie Down", and that's one I wanted to hear them do for years. I would still be interested in hearing them try this one again, but with Dickey singing. Fat chance there.

Does it complete escape you that Gilded Splinters is a New Orleans song, and therefore extremely appropriate for the occasion?

If you don't like the ABB version, that's your opinion, but it's hard to understand how anyone could argue with this being a good song selection for this particular situation.

In the spirit of compromise, I will agree with you on "Dixie." Definitely one of my least favorite covers that the ABB play live. I'd be happy to never see them play it again, and judging from recent setlists, lately it seems like I'm getting my wish.

Rather than "new" covers, I think it would be nice if maybe the band put a modicum of effort into creating some "new" music in the form of some "new" originals for a "new" release in the form of a "new" studio CD. Hey isn't that a novel idea? You know we are in the grand scheme of things getting close to 10 years (give or take a year) in the way the ABB moves since the last CD. Of course it was 10 years gone between BWIAB and HTN before that. Perhaps a "new" creative strategy ... Oh well wishful thinking on my part.
