I just bought two tickets for Sly and The Family Stone w/ The Average White Band, Saturday, July 7, outdoors in downtown San Jose, about 5 miles from my house, for $15 each.

According to columnist Shay Quillen in the Thursday, April 19, edition of the San Jose Mercury News: "I spoke with Sly Stone's little sister and long-time backup singer Vet on the phone last week, and she said Sly is in good shape and is excited about his return to the stage. As for reports that Sly looked 'frail' when he hit the stage last month at the Flamingo in Las Vegas, Vet Stone said, 'I'd have to say he's doing really good because when I left him today , he was about to go bike riding.'
Vet said the band is rehearsing two or three times a week up in the Wine Country and is mixing some new Sly tunes in with the old classics. And she said Sly won't just make an appearance -- he will be front and center. She didn't, however, promise that he would be on stage for the entire 90-minute set.
'I'm not sure exactly how he's going to do that', she said. 'He always has a surprise . He's hard to pin down.' "

hope he's better than he was at the grammy's last year. i hear the AWB still brings it so it should be a good show even if sly never comes out of his dressing room.

I hear tell they take bets on whether he shows or not. He's notorius in the past for missing shows. We had a riot here in Chicago years back when he was a no show. Word is however, his music, which is amazing, is all being repackaged and re-released, hence the touring. Perhaps he's ditched his demons. I'd give him chance.

I've always loved Sly and the Family Stone! Hope you get a great show! Let us know how things go (and if Sly is still sporting that blonde mohawk he was wearing a few years ago )
