still having a hard time believing this happened.
Saturday night, I decided to head back to the tent near the end of Keller Williams show
because I knew it was going to be a long night. So I took a nap just to rest my legs and eyes, my campsite was in primitive camping and I was camping alone, came to the festival bymyself (met alot of great people).
So I could here the crowd after Mule finished their set, and I figured it was time to get up and get ready to groove. I get out of my tent and it's pitch black nobody around the other camp sites, I couldn't even here anybody. So I figured this was a good time to take a few hits off the bowl before I went into the show. As soon as I put the bowl down I was approached by a undercover who told me to put every thing down so he could see it, and i was charged w/ possesion of cannabis under 20grams and a drug parapenalia charge for the bowl and I spent the night in jail.
There was about six others that got sent to jail with me, all of them caught with in the venue and the cops told them they should have been more discreet and to just keep it at the campsite because they were not bothering people there.
This was very uncool, and I'll have to think about returning long and hard, I'm 41 married with 3 children and I don't need this kind of thing happening.
Now I've got a court date in two weeks back in florida for this crap.
Any real advice out there???????????????????????

Hate to hear this man, no advice that hasn't already been given before but you just gotta' be smart and careful at Wanee. Which, don't get me wrong, it sounds like you were.
Were you camping over around the pond or out in the field?? Those are definitely the worst spots to get snagged in because that's where the biggest contingent they are looking for tend to reside.
Sorry to hear about this bro

Really sorry about that. Blame it on Bush. I saw the pigs searching people inside for not smoking. One guy just sitting there, minding his own business, next thing I notice is he's getting his ID checked & backpach searched.

the U.S.A suck for that kind of stuff, over here in Montreal,Canada you can smoke a joint in the street as long as you're discreet, they won't bother you, don't get me wrong here i love the U.S i travel across your country often ,but i find that it's becoming a police state more and more !! and it sucks pretty bad,i attended two shows at the beacon this year and there was these really nice people smoking up next to me and offering me some but i had to refuse,i couldn't take any chance to get busted and never being able to enter the country again,my advice here is to find the best lawyer you can, wathever the price is, you have to get out of that mess or else your **** ed for life bro,i'm really sorry and wish you good luck

Sorry to hear about that. It would seem to me that Florida has enough real crimes to keep police busy. I guess not. Seems that their priorities are a little out of touch with reality. I doubt that many people were calling and complaining about pot at Wanee.

As skydogdude mentioned, the police in Canada really wouldn't mess with people like that unless you pushed them to. To me one guy taking a few puffs is hardly a threat to others safety and lifestyle.

Not sure where you live but travelling back to Florida and legal bills are sure to add up. They should have just fined you. Hope it all works out as well as it can.

The same thing happened back in the 80s at Nassau Coliseum concerning Grateful Dead concerts and the Dead never returned. Perhaps the ABB should look for a different venue obviously Live Oaks Florida does not need the income.

That really sucks only place safe anymore is at home, I normally do not risk it inside any venue usually do the business in the car with the windows shut and then go in.
I would definately recommend a lawyer he maybe able to get the charge lowered to a misdamenor however the hell you spell it.

That is a very interesting statement to say the least. Smoking pot and having it in your possesion has been illegal for many many years, long before Bush took office. It is never fun getting busted, but it shows that we reap what we sow. Bush deserve lots of blame for things going on, but not this brother getting busted. A festival like this is means for local governments to generate revenue and it isn't very smart to induge in any illegal activity when you are under a microscope, so to speak. Get a lawyer and pay the lil bit of extra funds for thier service so they can work out a deal for you to just pay a fine and not have to do any other things to take care of the matter.

Exactly the opposite I would say, they DO need the income and that includes city hall and the Live Oak PD unfortunately views these festivals as a real good fund raiser.
As far as the Brothers looking for another venue, I don't believe there is a festivel venue in the states that doesn't incur it's fair share of pot busts....I could be wrong.

curious as to the number of people at the show for the weekend and the amount of puffing going on and how many busts occurred? sounds to me like a cash grab if some steriod is sneaking up on ya while you are minding your own business. i am of the vintage man, get yourself a good lawyer and make it go away..........

sorry this happened but it does not surprise me. last year i stood behind and watched 3 drug inforcement agents bust people during the ABB show at Wanee. they would stand and watch and smell then migrate to that area. as soon as someone would fire up they'd move in. dead give away on the d.e.a. people, all had nice, new sneakers on and bad(i.e KISS) t-shirts on. what a bunch of crap. my daughter attended VATECH, with all the crazy **** happening there and we spend billions to bust honest, hard-working, not bothering anyone folks. They actually pay these people to attend shows to do this. WOW, big bust, got this teenager with a one-hitter and 3 grams of weed, bull _ _ _ T!
sorry 'bout the profanity

I'm in shock reading your post. I was at The Festival all weekend, and lighting up all weekend. Being in the medical field, a bust like you had would ruin me. I'm sorry for you, just glad it wasn't me!!!!! -Rob in CA

PS Gotta say this really worries me in regards to coming back next year.

Sorry DIPASTENA, I don't have anything to add or suggest to you, but my heart goes out to you. It sounds to me like you posed a major threat to the good people of Hamilton County, Florida. There's nothing more dangerous than a guy smoking a little dope alone, in the middle of the woods. Public enemy #1 stuff.

Let's face it friends, Wanee has become a cash cow for this revenue-starved part of the state. It's been a few years ago, but I clearly remember a statistic that Hamilton County was the poorest county in all of Florida. Did you all notice the jai alai/ poker room just down the road from the Spirit of the Suwanne Music Park ? There's a good reason why the county commissioners let developers build it there...they desperately wanted the $$$ !

Tell me which is worse, DIPESTENA buying a C note's worth of food from the vendors at the show because he's stoned, or someone having a serious gambling habit and spending their children's lunch money to buy in to a poker tournament. I know that sounds a little dramatic, but it does happen. I'm glad that the powers that be have their priorities strait in Live Oak, I doubt that this moral dilemma has ever dawned on them when they lined their pockets with dirty money.

Wow am I sorry. This is lunacy to have undercover cops at a self contained facility like this. I cannot imagine a better venue to engage in such activity. Camp on site and walk to the show; what possible adverse effect on society could there be? I have no problem w/ uniformed police there to keep order but this looks like some kind of 3d world shakedown. Recommend you go to Martindale Hubbell.com for some lawyers in Live Oak or nearby concentating in criminal defense. I don't think it should be too bad but make sure w/ some well regarded local atty who knows the prosecutor and judges. I'm a lawyer but have never practiced criminal law. Good luck. PS I wonder if the promoter forgot to grease some palms because w/ the bad publicity this venue just sank in my estimation.

This really sucks and I feel for you. Minding your own business, having a bake and enjoying the festival... but what are you going to argue? You got caught. Suck it up, pay the fine and get on with your life. It stinks but if they caught you with the goods then you're screwed. The "Cops Are Pigs" defense ain't gonna cut it. Neither is grumbling about a police state, GW Bush or anything else. I'm not trying to be a dick but you broke the law and got caught. I've been in a similar situation and the more I tried to blame someone else the angrier I got... until I accepted responsibility for my own actions. Somehow, some way it can always be worse. What happens if the cop thought you had a smart mouth and pounded the crap out of you. Now you got a busted face, a court date, a heavy fine, a genuine law suit and so many more headaches (literally and figuratively). Go to court, look that judge straight in the eye and tell him/her you're sorry and that you accept what you've done. He/she just might cut you some slack. A lawyer is gonna cost more than the fine and being a defiant pot head (which is how you'll be viewed if you cop an attitude, no pun intended) might be fun to brag about but ain't gonna do your cause any good. One last thing... many people will bark about what they'd do if they were you. They're blow hards, full of crap. They don't have to face the judge. You're the one who has to answer. Be honest, contrite and respectful and you might skate. Good luck.

I missed out on this year's Wanee, but I attended in '05 and '06. The first year was great, generally speaking. As long as you didn't show your a$$, you were left alone. The second year just had a different feel to me, a larger police presence, and the S.O.S. staff was pretty damned uptight as well.

I failed to mention in my prior post that my nephew got pinched at this year's fest for underage drinking. They issued a citation to him for the "offense", he'll be 21 next month. I don't know the amont of the fine yet, but I'm sure it's going to be stiff. Having said all of that, don't let these things deter you from attending Wanee in the future. The music and the people are second to none. I hope to see you there next year.

Wow - I certainly saw cops there and even saw a few people getting busted, but I had no idea there were undercovers there. Me and my two roommates would have been much more discreet had we known.

I hope everything works out for you bro...I'm sorry you got caught. Really sucks that they would bust a guy smoking by himself in the woods.

So he was busted just for EXISTING!?!?

As far as your situation, it really sucks, but I guess the lesson is, spark it up INSIDE your tent.

As for me, I think I'll be permanently skipping Wanee.
