Soul Stew is the next level band. Phenomenal. And oh yeah, Derek played Duane's Gold Top on Walkin' Blues last night. A little wiring problem (sounds like a loose ground) but incredible nonetheless. Susan is the one that said it was Duane's by the way. Derek was grinning from ear to ear.

Peace~!

Some of the arrangements for dTb have been done differently. Mike & Susan are sharing the vocal duties well. ie. they take turns on verses on I Wish I Knew. The horns, Mike & Susan leave & return to the stage showing that they are taking advantage of exploring the right mix for each song. Mike (ABBSTILLROCKIN04) said ti best when he said that Derek is definitely a leader now, pointing to the horns, Kofi & Susan to solo & sing at different points in each song.

After last year's tour of the co bill this was definitely the next logical step for dTb. I can't wait for more shows.

I missed out on Wanee this year, my wife is due any day now so I couldn't be away. My nephew and brother-in-law were there. They raved about the shows ( particularly the second night for some reason ), but they said a lot of people were being harassed by undercover cops. Is that true ? Any personal stories ? I went to Wanee '05 and '06, I noticed the security the second year wasn't nearly as lax.

There were LOTS of undercover cops. Last night during Gov't Mule was saying he got arrested Friday night right before ABB went on by an undercover and they took him to Live Oak PD and they made him walk back to the park and it took him from 2 a.m to 6 a.m. Also during Robert Randolph's second set yesterday Derek Trucks came out and jammed it was awesome i got a picture ill post it later in the week.

What an amazing weekend. Beautiful Music with beautiful people at a wonderful setting. I may try to write some reviews later. Yesterday, from the Rads to the end of Randolph to a magnificent set by the Brothers to the Susan and Derek show you can't get a better day of Music. I hope all who went are as satisfied as I am from the great musical food for the Soul.

The music, the people, the weather, the food, the hospitality, the vibe, it all was out of this world. I'm not good at music reviews, and I see the setlists are posted, so this will be short--I'm just damn speechless!

Besides Mule and ABB, I wandered around and listened to a little bit of everything Friday and rested a lot Saturday while my nephew Micah went back and forth between the two stages. I made it all the way to the end with Susan and Derek this morning at about 2 am and Micah passed out in the tent after the ABB. I liked the first night's set from ABB the best, but then got blown away by Derek this morning.

We knew a storm was coming almost all day yesterday. The wind was whipping, and during Mule's set I saw lightning in the distance (Smokestack Lightnin was played ). Though the weather rumors were flying around camp, the most consistent reports had the storm coming in around midnight. But the great guitar god in the sky held it off until the Soul Stew Revival wound down. Just beyond words, the whole damn experience.

AND, this was Micah's first concert. He'll never forget it.

I just want to say it one more time...

"blown away by Derek this morning."

That's just 17 hours ago. I saw Derek this morning.

And I still can't find my hairbrush!

I sure hope so. I hope I can bring a lot of family--now my sister wants to go, and Micah (of course) is talking about bringing his best friend next year. With enough people, kids are easier to handle

I'd like to know how many people were there. Is it doubling each year? It's the kind of thing you want to share with someone...

Thanks, sixty8!

I've been wanting to hear both Hammer & Nails and John the Revelator in person--it was great! I'm a little hypersensitive to the natural world, so for me, the second night of Mule, with those clouds, wind and lightning was just incredible!

Ya know, to Mike's point I noticed that Derek was taking more of the floor general position at the Beacon this year, pointing out solo's etc..good to see.

You are so right about that. They need to ban those things in the coming years of Wanee. What a waste of space. That is the ONLY complaint that I have. There were a lot of very rude people. It's a concert for Christ's sake. Quit being so damned bitchy about your little area. I really don't give a **** how early you got there. It's a free world, and if I want to go to the front (I was front-stage and center BOTH nights, btw), that's where I'm going. If you can't handle it up there, or you're "too old for this", then stay to the back and spare us the ugly looks. Ok, I'm off of my soap box, now.

Despite the previous gripe, I had a rediculously great weekend. That was a musical onslaught at its finest.

Besides the obvious highlights (ABB, Mule, Trucks, Rob Randolf), I have one note to add....

ROSE HILL DRIVE KICKS SO MUCH ASS!!!

WOW....what a weekend. I gotta once again than Big Dave and Bluedad for the planning, energy, time, muscle, money and love they put into the weekend....and the transportation from and back to Atlanta.
I'm kinda zonkered right now, I'll write more of WANEE and Beacon over the next umpteen somethings. It was great to see old mates and hook up with new ones.
I'll upload some photos and campfire jam vids the next few days. Missed a great solo on vid, Brents Friday night Liz Reed solo, the first part didn't get it on vid. I'd say the solo of the weekend, swish I had this part on vid to back it up and let everyone else enjoy the licks he turned out.
Thankd once again to WarJag... RIBEYE STEAK !

About half way through the Brothers set Sat. night, the roadies began to batten down the hatches and secure the stage for heavy weather. I looked to the skies behind us and saw dark ominous clouds overhead and lightning in the distance. The warm air mixing with cold gusts of wind spelled trouble in my mind.

Jesse was close by and asked me "What do you think about this weather?" I told him and Armin both, " I think we need a miracle." Later after Derek, Susan, and the band sounded their last notes on the Mushroom Stage, I knew we had all been granted our wish.
