Is it true that Gregg really always wanted to go to college and become a dentist?

If he grew up in my family it would have been constant parental nagging: "stop wasting your time with that silly guitar or you'll never become a dentist like your uncle Morty."

If Gregg was a dentist he would probably do as much as the sweet air as his patients.

I just can't help myself.......

If Gregg had become a dentist he would have been surrounded by patients instead of groupies. Ergo, he'd be filling a different kind of cavity......

That's the $64 question--If Duane and the Hour Glass stay in California with Liberty, it's likely that most or all of them would have faded into obscurity. Gregg back to dentistry,
who knows what for so many. Would Butch be teaching school? Dickey with a country band, doing carpentry work? Jaimoe a truck driver in Mississippi, Berry hanging around Chicago, catching on with various blues bands? Would Scott Boyer be selling insurance?
Would Tommy Talton be in the construction industry? What would Jimmy Hall be doing?
How would Phil Walden's life have played out? Would Chuck Leavell be selling cars in Tuscaloosa? What kind of life would the Caldwell Brothers have lived? Would anybody have ever heard of Charlie Daniels or the Van Zant brothers?

And what about Clapton? Had Duane faded away in California (I believe Duane would have been successful no matter what), what would have become of his most famous work? Would he have ever married Pattie, or would he have pined away and died an addict? So many others--Johnny Sandlin, Red Dog, Warren, Derek, their kids and grandkids--if Duane doesn't come back and make this whole thing work, Gregg becoming a dentist is just one of dozens of lives that change so profoundly.

This is why we have the Jam for Duane.

Well their daddy owned a plumbing supply business, so no doubt, they would have been plumbers, which I believe they were before the Marshall Tucker Band took off.

I guess he'd have to sing..."I'm hung up on teeth I'll never see" instead.

Ah back to the counter-factual history. My favorite subject. Maybe Harry Turtledove can write the story.

On the way to work each day he would sing that he was, "mouth-bound."

I saw this thread and the 1st thing I thought of was
"Little Shop of Horrors" and the sadistic dentist played
and sung so well by Steve Martin. Not that I think Gregg
would have been sadistic or anything... just that is best
example of a singing dentist I can think of.
