I've been wondering for years what "mycology" stands for. Without looking it up, any guesses?

More generic than that - fungi in general.

For our purposes though, let's narrow it down to just the mushroom subset of fungus...

Can't swing a stick where I live without hitting an Angus......

"The reader has a simple task to preform in order to locate the most
common psilocybin mushroom. He must search cow pastures after rain storms
during those months in which the temperature is between 65 to 85 degress
Fahrenheit. Only those specimens which occur on manure, turn blue when damaged
and have a hollow stem need be considered."

It's supposed to rain tonight, but it's still too cold......

Benjamin's right. You guys are good.

I thought it was something like, "the study of sound amplification using microphones."

Did you cheat?

Yeah, Rusty brings up a good point. If it is the study of fungus, ok, fungi, then why isn't it
mi-cology, not my-cology. It's a personal thing and it belongs to me. After all, It's my cology.

Nope - I lived thru my wife attending George Washington University medical School - and heard way more than I ever wanted to know about biochemistry, pharmacology (she took that class twice), and so on....

Then I wondered if it came from the Roman Emperor, Mucus Aurelius, who rose to fame by being a slippery politician.

The study of mushrooms is a more complicated field than I dreamed. Apparently it even has an application to my field--criminal law.

According to one reputable study "the slang term mushrooms is a gang related term for victims accidentally shot as collateral damage simply because they popped up suddenly, as do fungal mushrooms." *

Like, "wholly s--t, I didn't mean to kill the mother----r but the mushroom just popped up out of nowhere."

*Sherman LW et al (1989). "Stray bullets and “mushrooms”: Random shootings of bystanders in four cities, 1977–1988". J. Quantitative Criminology 5(4): 297-316.

True or False:

The term mushroom is sometimes used to describe a person who never
gets told the details and is always left out.

Right on, Lola. It is true indeed.
According to Wikipedia:

"The term "mushroom" is sometimes used for a person who has been intentionally kept uninformed, i.e. in the dark. This relates to the fact that the commercial white button mushrooms are grown in the dark."
