Now let me start by saying I can't stand Imus and I loved it when Stern used to goof on him all the time and call him out for being a drunk phony but do his comments constitute a national media crisis ? NO !

Never mind....I just caught the story on Countdown. One good thing about Imus, though, he really is a fan of Delbert McClinton....he can't be all bad!

What IMUS, Howard Stern, Russ Limbaugh, ect "ALL" have in common is that they are entertainment. They are paid big money to make outrageous comments, so why are the "politically correct" crowd so upset to heard IMUS call the Rutger's women basketball team a bunch of "nappy haired ho's"? C'mom black rap artist say FAR WORSE things about their women every day, and no one, especially the black community says sh*t about it. Indeed, these "rap artists" are rewarded quite well for "their artistic comments and social commentary". But let some old white DJ make a similar remark (who btw has already apologized for his remarks) and then it's "how racist and we have to get him off the air". Notice who's leading the charge in all of this, the "Righteous Reverend" Al Sharpton. IMHO, much to do about nothing, and another example of a "double standard" which is hypocritical in nature. My advice to the Rev Sharpton, is clean up your own back yard first, before pointing your finger at somebody elses.

Well, it doesnt matter who is pissed off over this issue (Sharpton is a hypocrite of the first order) as it wouldnt matter who was angry as what was said was wholly inappropriate and racist. This isnt the first time Imus has made slurs, just the first time anyones noticed. I hope it starts a trend. Its not needed on the public airwaves from anyone.

I was watching Imus the morning he made that comment. While I did take notice and thought it was a little rough it never occured to me that it would blow up into a national debate like this. As previously stated his comments are pretty mild compared to rappers and other comics.

Secondly I do respect Imus a lot. While the rest of the national media was beating the Iraq war drum and blindly following Bush he was one of the first ones if not the first one out there saying the war was totally fabricated.

Dang, CUH, I dont disagree with you very often but I do here. :-) Rush is NOT an entertainer. He makes his money solely off of political commentary and the lies he pushes on a daily basis about anything and everything political (especially Democrats). He has shaped RW political philosophy for years.

He F*ckin A should be fired. Permanently. He'll get another job. If I made that comment on company time, and even one member of the public heard it, I would EXPECT to be fired. I would be SHOCKED if anyone defended my stupid ass. I wouldn't plead that I AM A NICE GUY like he is. He should be fired as much for being stupid as for being offensive. Hello, black people can call black people nigger, but if a white person does, it either comes across racist or pseudo hip cool attempt. Right or wrong, that IS how it is. Imus makes money on the air and he didn't know that? Hello....... Secondly, what he said: NAPPY HEADED HOES..... about serious athletes, he is an ass*hole. And look at HIS HAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who the hell is HE to call ANYONE nappy headed? Looks like rodents could live in that dyed rat nest of his......................

Squatch,

Your comment would imply that you think that Russ has a great deal of political significance. Truth is, people like him and Ann Coulter and that crowd ARE entertainers, and their audience, for the most part, is people who are generally far-right wing, narrow-minded and pretty much hate anybody that disagrees with them. But the people who shape "RW political philosophy", don't listen to Russ Limbaugh, not do they read Ann Coulter, they're reserved for the "two digit midget crowd" and the "dittoheads". So saying Russ is helping "shape RW political philosophy", that's a stretch. People who listen Russ, would have been RW anyway, so the only thing he's doing is "preaching to the choir".

I believe he does. Look at the state of American politics right now and you will see his handwriting all over it. He is the voice of the RW crowd and on almost any given day, you can come here and see his talking points being echoed. This is what I meant by him being responsible for having shaped a lot of the RW philosophy.

True about the audience, but Coulter is also another one that has the ability to change the course of thought based on her well documented dishonesty.

Ok, I see what you are saying about the choir and I agree with you there. There are a lot of people though that hear him and never question anything and they run as fast as they can to repeat his talking points. If you say a lie often enough, many folks end up believing you. Look how many average americans still think Iraq was behind 9/11.

yall make it sound like Rush and Coulter are extremely biased when they are no more biased than most everyone in the media. They are just biased in the opposite direction. In fact, most of the media is left wing, maybe not radical, but theyre not preaching to the chior, they have a huge affect on the everyday people who dont know anybetter than to research for themselves, and then take everything that these left wing commentators say for granted.

Food for thought

If everyone's so offended by these comments why does the media keep playing them over and over and over again?

Seems to me to be like rubbing salt in the wound

While calling the Rutgers girls B-ball team nappy headed hos was totally uncalled for, I can see the double standard. It's OK for rappers and hip hop artists to throw out racial epithets, but don't let a person of another persuasion say it. It's racism. I say, do away with all epithets. If Richard Pryor could do it, so could everyone else.

George Carlin told us that there were 7 words that we couldn't say on TV. Well apparently that list of words has not only been revised but so has who can and cannot say them as well where they can be said. Not on TV, Radio, Comedy Clubs, or on the side of the road while being arrested. What's next, " I could see it in his eyes he wanted to call me the "n" word" your honor.
