Hey good people. I just felt compelled to start this thread after reading SOOOOOOOO many threads with people complaining and crying about every little thing that went on at the Beacon. I went to only 3 shows this yr. but I have been going since they started playing the there, loved the old staff and was friends with a few. I was not happy when the Dolans took it over, blah blah blah.So what happened, I had a great time at all 3 shows , thought the staff were very cool, yes they busted some chops about being in the aisles and smoking etc. But honestly, they only busted your chops if you lit up right in front of them and the aisles were never really clear. You needed to be on another planet if you thought it was goin to be a free for all like it has been for yrs. which I admit I liked. That said, I really expected it to be a lot worse then it was. All the complaining about too many young drunks, too many old drunks, too much talking, I got thrown out, water costs 3.50. C'mon man, this is the Beaocn theatre in the heart of NYC. The prices are going to suck, thats the way it is. I realize some folks have personal legit gripes but airing all the negativitiy here is getting a bit out of hand. Before the last show, everyone was coming on here just beaming with excitement and good karma. Now that its over, the complaint department is in full gear.

All I know is every year the Allmans come to NYC and blows the doors off the Beacon theatre. All I know is our community is like nothing I have ever witnessed, with people coming from all over the country for athe annual pilgrimage for the greatest damn band in the land. The ffact that this is still going on is just amazing. This is something we need to always keep in our minds because one day, the Beacon will still be here but the ABB will not. We are living in great times my friends, its 2007, the ABB is better then ever and just played 15 kick ass nights at the coolest venue in NY.IMHO. Yes its going to change and from what we hear not for the better with the orchestra seats coming out etc. Lets wait until it happens on that front. And for what its worth I heard the renovations may not start until after the run next yr. As far as people drinking too much, and being ass's, hey I hate that stuff too but for better or worse that's going to happen at the Allmans, the Dead, and just about any other rock concert you have been at or go to. Some stuff we just have to let roll down stream. Sorry for the ramble and I am sure some folks are going to take this post personally and I am not trying to single anyone out. I just choose to think of the great time I had either at the Beacon, at the parties, talking to all the fine brothers and sisters from here that I see once a yr, or reflect on hanging out on the site during the show chatting about the setlists every night. Man we need to realize just how cool this all is. I say it every day. Y'all a great bunch of people and I love the Allman Brothers band. Thanks to them for giving us the greatest music experience and to Lana and Rowland for giving us such a great community to congregate to. I realize I went off topic some hear but it all comes back to enjoying every day and stop sweating the small stuff. One day its all going to be over.

See y'all further on down the road this summer

I agree. I posted something along the same lines in another thread. I think since I work in NYC and walk from 34th to 57th each day on B'dway or 8th ave depending on crowds, the worst behavoir I see at the show is training wheels compared to what I've seen going on at 7:30 a.m. some days. Since when didn't people go completely nuts at shows ? I was telling a friend today, I think rock shows awaken cave man DNA in some people.

BTW. Found some old stubs tonite. Row D orchestra 1998 $ 50.00. Row V 2007 $ 100.00

Very nicely put. To paraphrase Butch from the Big House video that played every night, we packed a lot of fun into three short weeks.

My Beacon-weekend was awesomely flawless! So many great folks to hang with, so much great music! It's a blur now, but it was a blast then! Let's make every ABB show a Beacon-weekend!

What NYCPeachHead said!!! Only problem I found was that days still only have 24 hours (but I enjoyed every minute of every one of those hours!)

actually, i found the new security people in my section to be an actual problem. i saw them tell people to get in their seats, when their seats were occupied by huge drunks, and security was AFRIAD of the drunks and stood there with the flashlight shining while the ticket-holders had to handle the huge drunks themselves. (fortunately, the huge drunks were REALLY nice peeps, no prob, just there for the show). i saw my tiny friend girl get shot down by security for dancing with one foot in the aisle, when we were in the AISLE SEATS TO THE FAR RIGHT in the 4th freaking row, because...they could. i know for a fact that this year was the first year some folks i know put their VIP badges on during the show, because this was the first time the badges were treated differently than everyone else, which is f-----d up beofre they treated nice people nice, whoever they were.

i was there the last 4 nights, and it seemed to get better night by night. NO idea where they were keepoing the aisles clear after Friday, because late second set Friday was the last time they swept the aisles where i was. saturday and sunday were more of a free-for-all...but it was OK, because the shows were so good that everyone was just swept into them.

anyway, it was evident to me that even by the end of the run, this group had NO idea what they were doing, none whatsoever. i'll bet someone fixes it by next year.

didn't miss the cigarette smoke one little bit. :~)

I'm with Dave on this all the way, nicely said too. Hey, life's imperfect. ABB at the Beacon, new security or not, is about as close to heaven as it gets for me (though I am of course sorry to those who had a rough time). And Amen to Dave's words about Lana, Rowland, the folks on this site, etc. I never wanna take this stuff for granted, cuz 38 years in we have a band that's as good as it ever was, as adventurous as it ever was, etc. AND we have a bunch of people who use the INternet to create a genuine old-fashioned community.

Great post nypeachhead.. I, too had my concerns about what this year's Beacon experience was going to be like..I heard about all the pending changes and was worried..Yes, it was different.Yes security was a little tighter inside..But none of it was that bad, at least what I witnessed..You just had to pay attention to where security was..

You say "This is something we need to always keep in our minds because one day, the Beacon will still be here but the ABB will not. We are living in great times my friends, its 2007, the ABB is better then ever and just played 15 kick ass nights at the coolest venue in NY.IMHO. No truer words could be spoken..We can always find things in life to bitch about..But what we have in this community, with the ABB at the Beacon, what we have with each other on this site thanks to Lana and Rowland, must be cherished everyday..I'm old enough to remember the times before the internet..When we were listening to vinyl, playing 4 track tapes, and using U.S Mail to get set lists..I am one of those "dreaded Deadhead fans" who knows first hand that 1 day, when you aren't expecting it, it can all end..Phuff!! Gone!! Please enjoy each minute of each show..They may not have played what you wanted, or me (Blue Sky, my all time favorite song of any band), but don't complain..They played something that somebody wanted to hear..And, they are still playing..Be thankful for all of it, and do not take any of it for granted..

Dave--i'm guilty of posting & getting involved in these negative threads......i tuly apologize to you & to the fine people from here---particularly those of you who i met are first rate people---my intent was never to be ,in any way, shape or form to be critical of the magical music & this band that i love so much---or the many fine people i've met associated with them---having health problems(mine is MS) makes it a challenge to attend these shows & they are sacred to me.....& some were ruined for me by some out of control people---but,no excuse for me to kill the positive vibe that anyone here may have---so,no i'm not offended by yopur post---i respect it--my experience may have,at some shows been different, but again,ABB are the greatest & there was indeed,so much good....my apologies again.....

Effie - I'm with Wharfie ... you definitely had a couple of enounters with some true idiots which were not excusable and have no reason to apologize for being offended by that behaviour. If I would have had someone beating on my back or using the seat near me as a urinal I definitely would have gotten security involved.

Yeah Effie, not to speak for Dave here, but I doubt you were on his radar when he wrote this. Your situation was unfortunate and you had every right to post about it, God knows!!!

BTW I really enjoyed meeting you 2X and you seem like a great Dad (no higher compliment can I give!), hope to see you around before another year goes by.

Great post Dave. I feel blessed to be a part of this community. The Beacon run has been the highlight of my year since I registered on this site 4 years ago and got to know so many of you who are now good friends. When it's all gone, we'll remember the good times over the bad.

Effie, man I am sorry if you took that personally. I was not even thinking of your experience and if that happened to me, bet I would be saying something over here.LOL!! I just meant this in a general way because there were so many threads with complaints. I wanted to put it in perspective. It was great meeting you and hope to see you down the road this summer! right on brotha!

i had a great time both nights i went, and didnt have to deal with any jackasses. there were plenty of them around, but i wasnt going to let them ruin my vibe.

i had enough positivity going on to be able to give a lot more than i normally would have.

my advice: concentrate on all the good stuff, not the **** tty stuff. if someone is harshing your mellow, move for a bit.

and bear in mind, i've had my share of bad experiences at the Beacon.....in 2005, some jackass sitting second row Loge wouldnt shut up (we had front row loge). i offered to buy him a beer if he could be quiet (i was very polite) but, he got all pissed off. when the person i was sitting next to got up and left me alone for a bit, the dude started yelling, loudly, right in my ear, calling me a bitch. i mean, right in my ear! it was awful.

it was disheartening, to say the least..........but later, when i saw the same jackass in the lobby, drooling all over himself drunk, i felt a bit more vindicated. served him right.
