My one problem with this run was way too many drunk as$holes. The Beacon now busts peoples balls for smoking a dube, but will serve absurd amounts of beer, wine, and liquor to people that have no control of themselves. The worse thing the pot smokers do is dance and smile and have a great time. This year there was way too many stumbling, rowdy, puking, beligerent jerks. On 4-7 there was a couple of people in my row were constantly getting up to either get beers two at a time or to piss them out. By the second set they were stumbling there way in and out of the row. They must have missed about 40% of the show and probably forgot the rest. Instead of such heavy promotion of beer sales(vendors yelling cold beer here) as if you were at a baseball game, they should learn how to cut people off. There is nothing wrong with a beer or two during a show, but all the idiots that feel like they have to get stumble f*ck drunk to enjoy themselves, do us all a favor and stay home and act loke fools.

Sorry about the rant but this was a problem this year.

Pete

What they could do is issue beer cards, and each time you get a beer, you get your beer card stamped. Once you have all the punches stamped, no more beer. Determine a reasonable number of beers one coud consume at a three hour event, like 4 or 6.

Bluedad woud be exempt from this rule though. I've never seen him drunk. I think he has beer immunity.

Wow, great post! My favorite is when older people on this site make fun of the younger kids and how they can't hold their drinks. But when I was there 100% of the time, the drunk people who was being rude, acting like idiots, barfing, screaming whipping post before the show starts, and not being able to stand for more than 3 seconds were intoxicated people over 30 years of age.

On 3/23 I was behind this 50+ dude who was smoking and drinking the whole night, bumping into me and my girlfriend and leaving to piss every other song. He kept on bumping into me, but I didn't say a word, because I knew he was enjoying himself. The ONE TIME I poke him by accident he yells too his friends that I've had too much to drink and they should call security on me. I laughed and went back to enjoying the show.
--Mind you that the only thing I had to drink that whole day was water. I'm a sober kid, a rare find in todays world.

The people I saw who were ugly drunk were adults. A few who had their sons with them. I can imagine how those kids felt. The guy who tried slamming me out of my row got carted away but not until he passed out. I couldnt see waking him at that point but security did.
Last night everyone around me had a smoke in one hand and a bottle of water in the other. Great vibes. My best show of the run.

Reminds me of this Bible verse...applicable in this dude's case.

LUKE 6:42

"How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye."

Gotta aggree a few folks last last Saturday we're pushing their beer consumption limit. One guy behind us in Orchestra was plastered. Not puking but one whiff of a beer can away from driving the bus all the way to NJ.
I wish someone would have cut me off a little earlier as well $7.25 US a beer is a terrible price to pay for beer. Especially beer in a plastic bottle. Thank god they had canned Heineys for $7.50.
Cut everyone off as they leave Yogis.

Don't think it's just Dolan/MSG, though ... I've seen overly drunk people at lot's of venues. Many times they show up that way (remember one outdoor show we were parked next to some heavy drinkers and one little girl was whoo- hooing all over the parking lot before show...ended up passing out in the car and missing entire show). One thing I did notice when I went looking for water was concession people were agressively peddling shots of liquor. Personally I like to drink water at shows because it hydrates me (gotta dance) but I don't have anything against people having beer with their show... just please don't spill it all over me (or anyone else) as you stumble back to your seat.

Totally agree with you - much beer = much a**holes. Smoke a doob and be done. Enjoy your time. My friend went to the Beacon Thursday night without tix. Scored GREAT seats at face value and went to smoke a bone before the show. 2 undercovers busted them at 7:30pm, threw them in the paddy wagon and were detained for 7 HOURS! Missed the show, the limo left without them (which had been paid in advance) and had to pay for a taxi up to Orange Co. NY - $200 tab. Over a silly little joint. C'mon folks...lets get real here.

too much of anything can be bad. - I passed out from too much weed at a RUSH show back in the 70's

seems unfair to now let someone have booze and say no to weed.

Why not allow a portable vaporizer?, that would prevent second hand smoke problems.

In the 2nd set of each show they should play Less Beer in A Minor. That would be the signal to stop serving.

That's one thing that drives me nuts are the drunken fools that ruin a show for the rest of us. I like to enjoy a beer or two, but I like to remember the concert I'm seeing.

I have to say this year was much better than in years past in terms of the drunken zombies. I only had one guy fall on me once and one guy kiss my forehead. Not too bad, imho.

the people who have some beers, gange, some dancin and howlin and enjoy the show and let those around them enjoy the show are no problem. it's the fall down, screaming, bumping into everyone, drunk that ruins it for people going to enjoy the performance. and it's not a matter of how old you are, old or young, there are some people who can't hold their alcohol. i too, thought there were more than enough of these bozos at both shows i went to.

You must have been sitting iin the same row I was that night. If that guy with the sweater vest walked by me one more time and said, I promise you this REALLY is the last time, I was about to trip him. Friday night I had a wonderful time, no drunkin uglies around me at all, but Saturday just about had me swearin that I was getting way too old for this **** . The six or so behind me had one drink in EACH hand all night, were popping Vicodin one after the other (I know because they offered it to anyone who would listen), spilt drinks all over our seats and were just good ol fashion **** faced. The funnier thing for me was that they were in their 50's! I know because they told anyone who would listen. Even I, who loves a few cold ones and a few hot ones, freely admits that something has to be done in the future.

You might be a redneck if...... I know because they told anyone who would listen!

That's the most upsetting story I have heard this entire Beacon run. I was there that night. Where were the undercover officers? Too bad I didn't see it, I would have offered free legal services!

Just plain stupid to smoke openly anywhere outside in NYC. If your friends were smart about it they would have experienced an awesome show.
