I know this is a Allman Bro.s site. but there's got to be 1 song you dislike by them or just hear it too much. What song is that ?

I'll make mine multiple choice - anything from Brothers Of The Road.

"The one I'm listening to now.

I've made my peace with "Ramblin' Man," though.

Probably my worst reaction was to hearing something blasting out an open window from somebody's stereo speakers as I was walking through a residential neighborhood near campus one afternoon. I first thought, "This is just the crappiest ripoff Southern rock! I'm so sick of this stuff!"

It took a little while before I realized that was Dickey singing and everything. This was the title cut of the just-released Brothers of the Road.

I was really appalled. The previous year's album, Reach for the Sky, had its bad moments, but nothing like this. Really the pits.

Nevertheless, there has been even worse ABB music since then--just not as shockingly disappointing.

mostly stuff from brothers of the road and reach for the sky:

"never knew how much (I needed you)"
"mystery woman"
"from the madness of the west"
"so long"

i recommend that you stay away from botr and rfts. terrible albums.

I like them all but Hoochie Coochie Man is probably one of my least favorites.
Then Ramblin Man and Midnight Rider. I guess just tired of hearing them.

Honestly, and I'm going to get flamed for this, I don't really like Dickey's material. Liz Reed, Jessica, Blue Sky, and a couple others are good tunes but for the most part I don't like it. Too country for me.

I don't necessarily dislike them but I'm really, really tired of Statesboro and Midnight Rider.

There are several songs I dislike, several I'm sick of, but the one I absolutely loath is Maydell.

i do not dislike any of the songs but what will wire me up is hearing a saxophone in "Dreams" i go poastal when i hear that, that song is the reason i am a ABB fan and it was because of Duanes slide playing it made the song melodic and just plain different the sax blows it all to Hell... IMO

I actually kinda dig the sax solo in Dreams. Especially when followed by a Derek solo.

By far its got to be Ramblin Man everytime they those complication of great songs from the seventies or songs from the south, that song is always there. When I got the Archival CD #4 I always skip that Ramblin Man.

I just flat out hate 'Old Before My Time'

Lyrically, it's not bad,
musically, it reminds me of a plodding, thud of a remake of 'Wish You Were Here'

Whatever. I'll take it or leave it for the rest.

Well….

I don’t mean to sound negative, but in the interest of sharing group truths….

I’m not too crazy about much ABB material after Brothers and Sisters. And even Brothers and Sisters, while a great album, does not grab me the way the earlier (ie Duane era) material does. The material from the Duane era is what got me “into” the band and its what still moves me today.

I have probably not even heard all the post Brothers and Sisters material, but the only song I can think of post Brothers and Sisters that really grabs me is Desdemona.

Oh, and I don’t like Mountain Jam. (Even “back in the day,” my friends and I never played the sides of Eat a Peach that had Mountain Jam. Until I found this website a few years ago, I thought nobody liked Mountain Jam.)

I wouldn’t say I dislike absolutely everything after Brothers and Sisters, but most of that material just does not do much for me personally.

Again, I’m not trashing or complaining here, just trying to exchange information. I’m kind of hesitant to post this, because I have a lot of love for the band and this site, but this is my truth.

PS – But I love Laid Back—one of my all time favorite albums, if not my all time favorite.

Oh man HCM rocks! That's one of my all time favorites, particularly with Berry singing.

There's some really epic stuff (no pun intended) on the 90's albums. Have you heard End of the Line, Nobody Knows, Back Where it All Begins, Sailin Cross the Devil's Sea? Great great songs.

Doug

Rocking Horse, if that's considered a 'true' ABB tune.
Also, because I've heard them so much, Ramblin' Man, Midnight Rider and Hoochie-Coochie Man.

Thanks for the references.

I’m sure I’ve heard End of the Line and Sailing Cross the Devils Sea. I’m not sure about the other two you posted. Again, I’m not saying its bad material, it just does not do much for me.

Different strokes for different folks.

But I’ll go back and give a relisten, maybe I’ll like it more now.
