No wonder they call it high school.

Three city teachers were busted for smoking pot on an upper West Side sidewalk before an Allman Brothers show, police said yesterday.

None of the teachers was immediately disciplined, but they will likely be reassigned until the investigation is complete.

While I have always been an advocate of higher education (rim shot!), and legalization ... these guys should've just KNOWN better than to spark up on a busy street corner!

Now would this even be news if these folks were not teachers. This is a BS article, its not like they are pediphiles, just got caught doing something most folks around these parts have and some still do before a Brother's show.

New Mexico just legalized medicanal Marijuana I am proud to report.

Gotta stand up for my fellow teachers

Neil, I agree that reporting things like this is just sensationalistic journalism, designed to get everybody who reads it to respond by saying things like, "These are the people who are influencing our children!" Or "They should be fired immediately and have their credentials stripped." For what? A simple misdemeanor? Chances are more likely that a fellow student will get another student high on pot before a teacher ever would. Teachers are human. The only mistake they made was getting caught, IMO.

i said this in another related thread but if your a teacher people automatically want to fire you if you make a mistake away from work but other professions are given break after break, especially if ya can throw a 95 mph fastball or run the 40 in 4.3.

In a christian society that should be based on Forgiveness we seem to have selective forgiveness throughout the society.

Therefore please no pictures of me at any future shows, what happens at a Brother show, stays at a brother show!

i think part of the problem in this society is actually religions, people prefer to worship something that they're not even sure exist than to help their fellow human brothers

I agree that they should'nt lose their jobs over something like this and I am also an advocate for legalization. However I still think these three should get the dumb ass teacher of the year awards for such a lack of common sense. Goes to show you that you can't get by on book smarts alone.

Spoke to a few Police buddies I know, and my Step Son is a NYC Police Officer.
In cases like it, it is up to the arresting officer if he want's to inform the Press it they deem it news worthy. What determines IF they call is the attitude of those being arrested. if they are polite, and treat the Police with respect, they very rarely call. if they get nasty, curse, and are disrespectful...they will call the News Paper's, tell them about the arrest, and the News will decide if they want to send a reporter over.
I don't know if that was the case. It could just be a reporter caught the bust, and followed them to the Station house.
But I guess that's good advise in any event on how to act when getting arrested

Good points Vinny, but if you'll recall, it was an informed news reporter who picked up on the arrest of Paul Reubens (aka Pee Wee Herman) when he got caught chokin' his chicken in a porn theater. That might have gone under the radar had it not been for his celebrity. News reports are constantly scanning for police bits that will help sell newspapers. It's all about sensationalism and selling.

No argument that they were not real bright, especially out on the street. They do have good taste in music, ya have to give them that

By the way I am a graduate of The School of Hardknocks, spent more time in the City than I did in class during High School.

To be a good teacher you need more than book smarts, you need social skills, and a sense of humor and the patience of Job. After 19 years my patience is whaining.

Always polite to police whenever I interact, still get tickets for some reason! Always be polite to NYC finest if not you will regret it, they cut rude people no breaks. Never understood what folks thought was going to be gained by mouthing off to a cop, that will also get you the dumb ass award everytime

The reporter just wanted an opportunity to say the teachers have been tied to the whipping post.
