The TSA's get paid poorly. Bush and whoever follows him in the Presidency had better think of upping the pay, having a better work environment and getting better people in those positions than what they have now. Just paying the people who miss all of these tests will not do. They need to re-start the whole program from scratch.

Since the TSA program started I have been "selected" for personal screening on every family vacation I have gone on. I always buy and wear my new sneakers for vacation. This year a friend told me not to wear new sneakers through the TSA checkpoint. I didn't and wore my old sneakers. I didn't get checked.

They seem to fixate on certain things and don't have an open mind as to other possibilities. I know some will say they look for certain things because thay are responding to the Intelligence information that they have gathered. I don't know if i agree with that fully.

Be safe,
John

If we're not paying the people properly who do the screening....what has happened to all the money that's been poured into the program? Halliburton subsidiary again?

This whole issue is one of the reasons I say we have been lucky since 9/11 rather than proactive and effective. 9/11 was their one cheap shot and now it will be years before we see something else, but the fact remains that we WILL see another attack. The sad part is that we are worse off now than before and the next attack will likely be a whopper.

https://tsacareers.taleo.net/

You have to follow a couple of links to get to the actual position. Her is the Pay Scale thats at the end.

Be safe,
John

So if we just pay the screeners more, that will fix the problem? Just like the proposition that if we keep paying teachers more, our kids will get a better education. Yeah, right. This has much more to do with defining the mission and managing properly than what people make

I go through airport screening on average 6-8 times a month. Itís uniformly a joke, and typically even more so in the larger airports. Unless we want to get as serious as the Israelis about the process, we will continue to have the haphazard results that we have now. It's doubtful that US airports and airlines want to take those measures. It would slow traffic thru security too much to process the volumes we have. Not smart, but expeditious - which seems more important in our country these days.

And now there's a move afoot to allow the families back into the terminals. Just what we need - more people clogging over-filled terminals and adding to the security lines just so they can get a couple hundred yards closer to saying "hello" or "goodbye" to family members.

I thought about trying it as I flew to the Beacon party this past weekend in NYC, but didn't go for it. Looking back, though, it probably would have been easy, especially on the later flights.

My son and I are on the TSA watch list. Our crime-an Irish name! I was born in NY and have never been to Ireland, never mind my son whose grandparents were born here.
Now for the funny part. Sometimes only one of us gets stopped (my son has only been stopped one time, and that time I was not stopped), also, I have artificial hips and set off the metal detectors everywhere except Newark airport(don't ask me why), and finally, if you get on the Tsa list you will not be stopped ever if you are a frequent flyer of the airline you are travelling on-does this make sense to anyone? If you try to get off the TSA list, the best you can hope for is you will be on a different list-those you used to be on the TSA list. This is true and easily checked out. It is a big joke.

I used to work baggage for a major airline and all i can say is that the baggage screening is whole helluva lot better than it used to be (none)...... Those scanners crap out all the time but at least it better than nothing....

As far as the employees go. Most of them were semi-competent, not that some of the baggage employees were really better though. Your life was in our hands more so than the TSAs at points and we had a bunch of primarily HS grads that graduated thank the lawdy.
