Duane was one of the hardest working session guitar player from like 1967 until his tragic death in 1971. I can't help but think there are tapes of outtakes and jam sessions from those dates. Has anyone heard any stories or rumors of what might be in vaults? I am thinking especially the stuff Duane recorded with Boz Scaggs and King Curtis. Also I was thinking about the holy grail ABB show the night before the closing of the Fillmore. I know Kirk went through all the tapes to look for it, he was granted access to Bill Grahams tapes, but he didn't find it. I have the strong thought that the tape is mislabled with another band or date...Just a thought...

It's true -- one of the things that made Duane the musician he was was that he didn't hear categories or styles -- as you said the guy played with everyone and anyone -- the country sound of Waiting For A Train -- as you mentioned the jazz oriented stuff with Herbie Mann -- the R&B of King Cutis -- the blues-rock of Derek & the Dominoes -- the wonderfully soulful music of Delaney & Bonnie...
and obviously, the ABB -- music that cannot be described or categorized.
Yes, the two anthology albums merely scratch the surface of what Duane contributed to the universal language we all know & love -- music.

It would be cool if they could release the Duane Anthologies remastered w/ some extra tracks..Or just remaster them with origional booklet info & updated booklet. These really need to be remastered..just as bad as Boz Scaggs first album..

There is a five disc's set of mostly unreleased Duane studio stuff as a sessions player that was put together from a guy in England. It appeared on ebay several years ago and a friend of mine bought it. And because of the contents all being commercial, with possibly copyright issues, as well as the profit potential (if it were to get in the wrong hands), it hasn't of yet been made public.

Someone mentioned the late show @ FE on 6/26/1971, and that Kirk had looked for it.

I was at the early show!!!!! Actually bought 2 tix 5 minutes before the show right outside. Those were the days.

Anyway, a few years ago, I was lucky enough to talk to Butch about the last show. As far as he knows, it was not taped.

It's hard for me to believe that it wasn't taped by at least someone in the audience, but then where is it - who has it, and why hasn't it surfaced?

In the past ten years, I have acquired most of the Duane sessions in either LP or CD format and relying heavily on the Allman Brothers Band Discography and the online website put out by the guy from Holland(?), I ripped those tracks and burned them on CDs. I have about 6 CDs worth of DA session material. It includes obscure recordings that Duane have appeared on. Be warned that many of the tracks are pretty boring to listen to, but it's all there. There are no ABB tracks, EXCEPT the very last track on the 6th CD, "Little Martha." I felt it should be included in the CD set since Duane was the brainchild of that tune. I've also included the 20th Anniversary Layla sessions as well as unreleased tracks. After I completed that project, Duane Allman Story came out After I read that book, I discovered that it would be near to impossible to obtain EVERY Duane Allman session recording. Supposedly there are many of these recordings out there that DA is not even credited on. So, the set that I have may be close to the entire DA session catalog. Let me tell you, it was some work!

Interesting......I may possibly have a lead on that tape. I know there is one from the Fillmore no one has heard yet. But, no, I don't have it in case anyone was wondering.

If no one's heard it, how could they know it's from the Fillmore? Inquiring minds want to know.

Well, I suppose someone's heard it or no one would know....excellent point. I'll rephrase....I know there is one from the Filllmore that no one outside of three or four people have heard yet.

Skypuppy, you lucky dog you! I stll don't know why I didin't try to get in the late show that night. (I was at the early show).

Do you remember what they played, especially the extended jam? You're the first person I've found that was actually there.

I have a vauge memory (god bless drugs) of Kirk (a good number of years ago) saying that he had heard of someone with a 6/26/71 audience tape......which was lost into the unknown void of time......
Live in hope..... you never know....certainly I don't!! LOL

Let me do some checking....it may not be such an unknown void after all.

Bigann, you're as rotten as I am! Normally I start picking up Christmas presents for my wife around September or so, making sure that I drop evasive hints about what I'm up to. She's finally learned that it's worse than useless to ask for clues. I always tell her the absolute truth, but phrased in ways that I make deliberately misleading. (Of course she does the same to me).

You've honed an uncommon skill. Congratulations. I read somewhere that Duane could be a merciless teaser (true?) and you seem to have a similar talent.

I'll conclude by pointing out that a void to the wise is sufficient (sorry -- but not very!)

If there IS a tape of 6/26/71, it would HAVE to be an audience tape. I asked Mike Callahan personally at WaneeFest if he knew if it had been taped. He said, to his knowledge, it wasn't taped. I hope someone has it and it eventually surfaces.

A few years ago, I remember someone writing that they were at the show and was on the way out. They saw a person at the door take a cassette away from someone as they exited.

The key words are "to his knowledge". IIRC it was the 9/16/71 NOLA set that surfaced recently, having been taped by someone (don't have time to troll all the posts -- 5 minutes to lunch!) who surreptitiously hung mikes from the rafters, etc., etc., then forgot about the recordings for 35 years. Likewise, Boston Commons (8/17/71) turned up from nowhere without having been in general circulation.

Are there other gems? More likely than not. Will we ever hear them? Who knows?

I'm tellin' ya, there's stuff out there none of us peons know about!

Remembering that the John DuBois tape was aquired by someone running an ad in a News paper and that ad was ....answered.

What if we had "Volunteers" from a mumber of cities that agreed to run an ad in their Local rag:

"Wanted, Local recordings of The Allman Brothers Band pre 1972"

Just to see if Lightning strikes twice?

We could set it up through this site, What the Hell, We are a family.

I'll agree to run an ad in San Diego if others will step up and agree as well....
