Hoping for her safety and return to stateside Ron. I can only imagine the anxiety...so in turn hoping for peace of mind for you also.

Stateside may be a long way off.

She started her three year assignment to Germany in November.

She told me two weeks ago she loved it there, and was probably going to extend that assignment when the three years was up.

I'm still half out of my mind about this.

Ken is going to Ireland, Spain, and England in two weeks.

They have a four hour layover in Frankfurt, Amy was going to spend some time with him.

Now she's leaving the day before he gets there.

I can't even begin to understand what you're going through Ron but if prayers will keep her safe, she'll be home without a hair on her hair out of place.

Ron,

I am very sorry to have read this news. I wish your Amy the all the hope and prayers there are for her safe return to you and her family. I know she is your beautiful baby girl and will always be your baby girl. I have a daughter as well and she is and forever will be my baby girl.

Please know that if there is anything I can do to for her, let me know. I would also like to offer any help she may need in getting the correct protective armor and helmet upgrade that may not be provided. Operation Helmet has a backlog right now of about 733 that are being donated so I don't really know why that is, but if they don't provide that for her I can get a kit direct but would need to know the size and type of helmet she will be issued.

When she is able to communicate to you find out if she has been provided with ceramic protective armor as well as a helmet upgrade and let me know where she stands.

Good thinking, Patty.

Ron, please let us know where we can send a card or a care package to Amy once she gets there.

All the best and safe return.

I have several friends who have been over there and my best friend, who I've known for the better part of 25 years, is over there now as part of the "surge". I try not to read the headlines for the reason you mentioned before Ron about those 5 soldiers. My friend is in the Army 1st Division (Big Red One), 4th Brigade, Infantry 2-16, out of Fort Riley. I've been communicating with him through his fiance and through letters and he even left me a message the other day. He sounded real good. Although, I notice I save every communication from friends that go over there, whether they be emails, letters or phone calls.

Patty, I have seen news stories about this. I've passed along the info to Amy, also told her to drop by here when she gets online.

If I remember right, her user name is Daddysgirl.

Imagine that.

Ron, I know a little bit about how you feel. My son was stationed in Germany, and we had a trip planned and booked to go visit him, when his unit was sent to Kosovo, very early in our adventure there. That turned out to not be so bad, and I didn't worry too much about him, but I'd be very nervous if I was in your shoes. I'll remember you and your family when I pray. I hope this madness ends soon.

Hi Ron,
I don't have any family in the forces but my step-daughter has friends who are either in Afghanistan or Iraq as we live in an area with many army barracks and a major airforce base. I can only imagine the thoughts that are going through you and your family's heads. We all have our own views on whether we should be in there, but whats done is done and we need to be supportive of those out there. Amy is on the prayer list. Sorry that I can't join you for a few beers at the Beacon this year!
Jim

Ron, I'm very sorry to hear this. I'll probably make some enemies when I say this. But words cannot describe the loathing I have for the Bush administration.

Sorry to hear about your daughter getting deployed to Iraq. Hope and prayers with her and your family.
My daughter goes out with a man who returned from Iraq this past June (she didn't start going out with him until he returned) and he's been told that later this year he has to go back for another tour.

Oh Ron, I am so sorry... I can't even imagine. My daughter's only 4, and imagining her growing up to be put in harm's way by such an irresponsible bunch of political clowns is just... I don't know, it makes my blood boil on your behalf. And on behalf of all the fathers and mothers everywhere whose kids are in this position.

That said, the most important thing is being there for her in whatever way you can... as you know. I'll think good thoughts for you and for her, and hope for her safe return as soon as possible. Thank you Amy, stay strong and stay safe.

Just got off the phone with Amy.

Her surgically repaired knee has been giving her major problems since the unit has begun the intensive physical training before their deployment.

She had an MRI done today, and all the repair work they did a year ago is trashed.

She's looking at another knee operation in a month or two, but the BIG news is that she IS NOT going to Iraq!

Period.

Best news I've had in a week.

This is the first time I've ever told a father that I'm glad his daughter needs surgery.....I'm happy that she'll stay out of Iraq.
