Well here's a nice kick in the teeth for a sunny Sunday.

My daughter Amy just called from Germany.

Her Army unit is being deployed April 5.

To Baghdad.

She is in finance, mostly office work, but that doesn't mean she won't be on patrol.

She just spent time on the range last week, and they trained her with a grenade launcher.

Just got off the phone with Amy.

Her surgically repaired knee has been giving her major problems since the unit has begun the intensive physical training before their deployment.

She had an MRI done today, and all the repair work they did a year ago is trashed.

She's looking at another knee operation in a month or two, but the BIG news is that she IS NOT going to Iraq!

Period.

Best news I've had in a week.

When someone joins the military they know what they're signing up to do....what they didn't count on was this administration making such bad decisions. As I said in another thread, my prayers go with her along with my hope someone can find a way to get our soldiers home again as soon as possible.

Understood, and the Army has been great for her.

But when she re-enlisted, she assured us that accepting a position in Germany would keep her out of Iraq.

I'm guessing someone wasn't telling the truth somewhere along the line.

Ron, think POSITIVE.

Amy will be fine. Keep in mind, all we hear about in the news is the bad stuff.

In the meantime, I will still keep her in my prayers that her tour in Iraq will be uneventful.

This is going to be rough.

I signed online and right on the ISP home page is a headline about five US soldiers killed today by roadside bombs.

And I'm thinking that once she gets there, I'm going to wonder every day will we get a knock at the door?

Last Monday she called me to tell me she was sending her son back to the states to live with his dad.

Apparently they had credible evidence that a US base in Germany had been targeted, but they didn't know which one.

Hey Ron,

I'll keep your daughter, Amy in my prayers as she serves in Iraq. My wife's nephew is also in Iraq, matter of fact, he was suppose to come home this April, but his unit's tour got extended, to support Bush's "surge". He was one of the "volunteers", who was recalled back to "active duty", and since he previous was trained as a "truck driver", he's now a "Humvee driver" in Baghdad.

There is never anything for sure in the military. Never has been that way, never will be that way.

Springerclassic has got it right - please, and literally, thank your daughter for me for her service. They are amazing people, out there doing their jobs.

DH
