Do you think the fence will be over the top of the graves as well, because folk will still try and climb it? The bars will also have to be narrow enough to stop hands getting through and leaving 'stuff' or dropping garbage through.

Is some sort of glass/plexiglass encasement any good? probably not because then people would probably crayon that or lie on it. I was thinking about that because it would seem to be more 'viewable'...

I like this thread for brainstorming possible alternatives.

It's a nice thought Big Dave.
The fence is the only vialble solution. It wouldn't be fair to disturb the souls
The ironic part of this is, we as fan, are trying to protect the graves from fans.

i can agree with part of that last sentence. we as fans is tryin to protect the graves, but not from other fans. we tryin to protect the graves from people that come to mess em up, mark em up, do they dope & leave the bags, butts & ashes on the marble, make money off'n em. they call theyselfs fans, i call em somethin else

It's hard to face, but true, who else would come visit the graves, if not fans. They are **** s, I'll grant you, but they are fans. Like the fans at a sporting event who throw things at players, or spill beer on them. They are fans, but jerks, and don't speak but for a very small percentage.

Actually, if you spend any time in Rose Hill you can figure out who are actual fans, who are there to see a grave of someone famous, and who the jerks are.

I was trying yesterday to not clog the server (we all know what happened the other day)
and just posted the headstone Martha Elizabeth Molton, tonight I'll stick with the one photo and post the marker with her inscription.

Perhaps this may be some help.

Many houses up for sale have a small envelope box wiht a description of the house for sale.

My thought is to have one of these envelope boxes at the gravesight with some info sheets about Duane, Berry and some information about some of the past problems with vandalism at Rose Hill and the costs that have occured do to muddy feet, theft, chipping away at the marble, tombstone rubbings , burns and even stains left by flowers which were innocently thrown onto the marble and that the colors had blead out and migrated into the stone.
A note from family respectfully asking that visitors to not cross the baracade, that we understand the appreciation for Berry and Duane but please do not cross. Thousands of admireres of Duane and Berry have been here and gave showed their honor and respect without crossing the barricade, but it only took a few to create this situation and cause the damage.

The words written on Duane's grave would be a nice addition to the fact sheet.

Unfortunatley at the bottom of the page, the Macon law which prohibits tresspassing on these and other siights and the fines which will occur if you are caught tresspassing, and that chances are pretty darn good, you will be caught and turned in and that the city of Macon will accept your credit card payment and cash.

If this materializes, I'm sure it will be no problem for several of the local fans to crusie by every so often and refill the envelope box.

Best Idea Right Here

Jerry, Ann and everyone else, thanks for what you are doing. Im sure this means a lot to the families and others concerned. I wish I could do more than give the odd piece of legal warning, but its the best I can do right now.

ST, you asked about police reports on the activities at the gravesite.
Here's a copy of one done a few years ago.

What the report doesn't say is that the guy was seen doing this by some City jail trustees cutting grass on the hill above. He used a tire iron to scratch in his statement and then used a red felt tip pen to highlite his handicraft.

Here's a photo of what it looked like.

This thread is starting to bear some results. A guy that has been seen riding his motorcycle around Rose Hill for several weekends, stopped and told Candace that he had come by earlier in the week and had seen several guys on the lot, and posing "Napoleon style" on the graves.
He said he had asked them to get off the graves and they refused, with some pointed remarks.

I would like to say thanks. While they might not have left, they at least now know that more people are keeping an eye on the gravesite, and that some people will not just ride by and keep going.

Good for that man! It's definitely a wonderful start.....and if someone doesn't leave... a cell phone call to the cops, a photo and a tag number might get them moving along! Thanks for that feel good story, Jerry.

Thanks for taking the time to post that report, Jerry. Sounds like they get the whole lot of folks out there from curious fans to people that want to desecrate the markers. My wife and I are huge history buffs and have a strong interest in necrogeography with regards to Texas, so I certainly understand your desire to put all this right. I honestly think that if folks contributed (maybe set up a Pay Pal account??) to hiring a security guard, even part time, you will see the incidents decline. Maybe someone with contacts inside the ABB can approach the members?? Not to sound shiatty, but it seems they have money for nice cars (and Harleys!), houses and everything else that they could kick in enough to fund a security guard for 6 months. Its probably less than the bar tabs they used to pay.

has there ever been any kind of fence plan, blueprint, diagram submitted to anyone? Does anyone know if there are certain building restraints in Rose Hill? I think 4 stone pillars with 6 foot high decorative wrought iron in between would be the way to go. (possibly one more stone pillar to accomodate a dpuble locked entry gate for the true caretakers)
