This one....

quote:
In the plans for the fence, there are two stair cases at the end of the lot, one coming from each side in a half spiral that leads to a platform at the foot of the graves so fans can have a clear view of the stones and their inscriptions. In between the spirals there is a space where there a large urn will be placed for people to leave mementos they want to leave.

It's being discussed that there might be room for a plaque over the urn where names of contributors could be listed. My thinking is to have a silver, gold and platinum catagory to acknowledge the people who have either donated or raised money to meet the minimums set for each catagory. As I said, I don't know what amount each catagory would represent, however my question is, do you think people would want to donate to the fence fund in return for having their support listed on a plaque that would remain part of the site from here on out?

Did I forget to say "Hell Yeah"? I believe it would motivate folks much more than to just start a $ for a fence campaign and get it more attention as well which is what we will need....

I just talked with Candace and the plans are being put into motion to get this project underway. As soon as there is something concrete to tell everyone, I'll post it right away. I have a drawing of the proposed fence that I will also send to someone to post for me (because I don't know how to do it myself) as soon as I get the okay from Candace.

There are several exciting things being set into motion to make this happen and it will give people a chance to participate at all levels. I have no doubt we can make this happen....and as Renee has said, if some of the ones who are profiting from these graves aren't going to step up and help out, then it's up to the rest of us to see they're preserved for future generations.

And as I said before....anyone who might have an idea to contribute....please feel free to jump in....even if it isnt' something that might be workable, often others can find a grain of inspiration that will lead us in the right direction!!

That's great new's Ann!
This is really starting to soar, and I can sense the Inspriation. I too have no doubt this is going to get done. Things at this end are almost ready to go
At this point I could care less If "they" kick in anything. All they would be doing is trying to take the ball we are carrying, and finnish a game we started. They had a chance to do something that means the world to us, their subcriber's, and buyer's of merchandise..basically their "Buying Public". If they truly cared about US, the fan's..they would have done it already.
As far as I'm concerned, they blew their chance to do the right thing.
I don't know these people at all, never met a one, and really have nothing against them personally. My statement's are based solely on this situation.

OK, so it's a little hard to transcribe the background singers.

I haven't been down to Rose Hill in over 25 years, and I have spent the last weeks focusing on the faces of the tresspassing with discust.

One thing I don't want to get lost in all of this is the beautiful landscaping that was done around Duane and Berrys' resting place.
So serene,.. and you can tell each planting was done with the utmost care in placement.
Nice work to you all involved. I just wanted you to know that it hasn't gone unnoticed.
Thank You.

Well, how about two tonight.

Remember when folks asked about photos of tags:

Some of the regulars know the tricks.

Im a bit late to all this, but even not knowing Georgia law, I can promise you that obstructing or covering the license plate is a pretty good fine. I would take copies of these photos and contact Macon PD (or Sheriff's Office..whoever has jurisdiction) and generate a report to include the photos. Document, document, document. This creates a massive paper trail and you *will* see results eventually. If they start writing tickets for these yayhoos covering their plates, the BS will stop.

'All involved' would be Candace and Buford.....they paid for it, they planted it and they keep it up. No wonder they don't want people trashing the place even if it wasn't Candace's brother and dear friend buried there!!!

By my count, there are 7 different people in the pictures....and I know those aren't the only ones who went over the fence in the one day. Doing the math that we did earlier....picture proof of the yearly total (say 7 over the fence a day) of 2,555! Still a staggering figure!

Candace, and Buford, It looks Beautiful. The love that went into it is evident.
Thanks Ann, I Didn't realize it was just the two of them. My respect, and resolve just grew a little stronger.

Ann, what Percentage of that number would you say is a direct correlation to The Big House Visits. Meaning, if it wasn't for the draw of the Big House Museum, how many people less would be visiting Macon, and Rose Hill solely to pay respects to Duane and Berry if they didn't have the BH to visit which draws many fans? You know where I'm going with this

I'd like to give an intelligent response to your question, but I don't have figures available to me. You can get an idea though, if you follow me here. First, the city of Macon, New Town Macon and the Georgia Music Hall of Fame are marketing Rose Hill as a tourist stop....with the graves featured. Even the H&H website lists them as Macon Attractions and has a photo of the graves on the site. That aside, factor in GABBA who draws crowds to their events and the big house that has championed a visit to the cemetery as a highlight of one's visit to Macon. Every time the big house has an event or fundraiser, the traffic increases dramatically. There are also clubs in town that draw fans who stop by the cemetery on their way either in or out of town. And you've got the Cherry Blossom Festival. At every function a stop at the gravesite is encouraged in some manner.

So what part does the big house play in creating traffic to the gravesites? Enough that they, GABBA and the rest of the entities mentioned should contribute substantially to the fence fund. Before GABBA the visitors were far fewer than after it began. When the big house became popular, the number of visitors grew rapidly. I'll also go so far as to attribute much of the disrepect accorded to Candace and Buford to a number of people in both organizations believing they had rights to the graves that surpassed those of the family.

And for those who might have missed it the first go round....yes, Candace had to take the hall of fame to court to prove the graves were private property and prevent the hall of fame from doing anything more than just talking about moving Duane and Berry onto museum property!!!!

I hope that kind of answers the question.

Speaking of people and events that draw people to Macon,in Sept. there will be two big motorcycle rallies in Macon.

The H.O.G. rally,Sept 6-8 and DixieBikefest,Sept 22-24.

Bikers are a kind, friendly, respectful bunch of folks who do a lot of great work for charity.

Most of us love the ABB too. Just ask BigDaveonBass.

Maybe we could set up a table outside the gate of Rose Hill and hand out some info asking for support.

I'd be willing to donate my time and services for either or both weekends.

I don't have any real skills at organizing something like this, but I'll show up and flag people down if I have to.

I just think it's a HUGE opportunity to reach out to a whole bunch of cool folks.

dave

Ann, you answered my question and then some. Man!, I forgot about GABBA.
The fact that these entities list the gravesites as as a highlight to visit, and then turn their backs on the situation they helped create is appalling.

Candace had to take the hall of fame to court to prove the graves were private property and prevent the hall of fame from doing anything more than just talking about moving Duane and Berry onto museum property!!!!

Another great thought. It would also enlighten some folks to the situation who are going in to visit the site who might then help prevent some from tresspassing if they see it happening.
"iN UNITY THERE IS STRENGTH".
This is our mission. We have been thrown together for a reason folks.
Let's Do It!
Ok..that was my Knute Rockne moment, I'm done.

I read the posts here and I see there are truly some kind, thoughtful people who not only want to help, but are willing to roll up their sleeves and get something done. I like what Springer said about reaching out to the people who will be attending these two events.....as a start.....think they'd all like to buy a cookbook? And Springer, as for the rest....you just know this group can come up with a plan for you by September!!
