And we'll include Jack Daniel's and George Dickel in this too even though they're technically not bourbons, they're Tennessee whiskies. My favorite is Maker's Mark.

The spelling too. In Scotland they are spelled Whisky. The Clan Macleod from the Isle of Skye has their own and is DAMN good!

quote:
The word itself is an import from colonial times; American and Irish whiskey uses this spelling while Scottish and Canadian whiskies retain the older form, "whisky."

quote:
The Scots lay claim to the earliest recorded history of distilling in the world. Those descendants of the Celts who mastered the art almost a millennium before the birth of Christ certainly enjoyed their fiery brews. Scotch whisky is identified by the region in which it is made. Scotland has four distinct regions: Highland, Lowland, Islay and Campbeltown

On a regular, don't spent a lot of money basis, probably Virginia Gentlemen or Ancient Ancient Age. Small batch I like Maker's Mark or Woodford Reserve, Knobs Creek is also pretty damn good.

Maker's Mark, for Bourbon (if I was ordering whisky it would be Canadian - Crown Royal)

Even though it is NOT a Bourbon, Dickel. I also enjoy my uncle's run-through-twice cranberry 'shine when he makes it, as well as Nicholas County, West Virginia and Wilkes County, North Carolina and Floyd County, Virginia shine, all of which has been sweet as of recent years.

Bulleit. This stuff rules! It costs a little less than Maker's, and it is better in my opinion.

My wife is from Kentucky, but sadly I've not acquired the taste for it. To me, asking my favorite bourbon is like asking me for my favorite kind of elective dental surgery: painful, cleans your mouth out, leaves you feeling a bit tipsy, but no other positive effects.

Will have to try the Bulleit out...I see elsewhere on the site that you are also a Chamay drinker, which is of my favorite beer, so I'm trusting your opinion on beverages.

Yes! It's not something that you would drink a lot of - I've even shared the big bottles before (which is not my 'regular beer behaviour' LOL)!

It's quite alarming that some of you guys are mistaking the American Whiskey with the real thing from Scotland

Really? I was always under the impression that Bourbon actually is an American spin on "whiskey," and therefore actually different than Scottish whiskey. Am I wrong? Seriously, I'm not trying to be a snop here. I'd really like to know if someone knows for sure. Incidentally, my favorie Bourbon is Old Grand Dad. But then again, I've many to still taste.

I keep going back and reading the previous posts. I've noticed several to try, in fact...Must stop...editing. Must...........stop....editing..........,chain..

I've often felt someone with enough capital could really make an interesting and profitable Bourbon here in upstate, NY. Really, we produce fantastic wine, ganja, maple syrup, ethanol, electricity (tons of hydros here, largest wind farm east of the Mississi....).....Im really ranting here, but you get my drift. It's just another cash crop we'd be good making given time and the right entreprenuer.....Good night.
