I'm with you David, I'll buy desserts! How about drinks?

I can't wait to hear Layla.

I traded emails with a taper that is doing these shows, but he's tied up until the run is over.

I'm betting that Clay will come through.

Evening fellow traders,

Been thinking about writing this regarding the Beacon shows for a few days, seems like a good opportunity here, so what the heck. Those who have visited my show list site know that I collect and record the source info for shows where ever possible. I have various reasons for doing it, many of which are not held by others on the site here. That's cool, to each there own. At the Beacon, there's usually a boat-load of tapers recording the show, frankly some of which don't come out all that great given, among possible other factors, location and audience in the area, etc. I'm also well aware that a bad recording can be made with a great set of mics/rig, and vice versa. If nothing else, though, having either the mic/rig info or the taper's name can help distinguish sources.

I know for weekend shows, I'll have access to at least 2-4 recordings of each. I try to limit myself to 2, sometimes 3 copies of the killer ones. Not knowing the source leads to a guessing game of whether you're just getting duplicates. I mean, tell me, do you have the time and $ to get 2-3 copies of the same show....for the 9 or so weekend shows?

Once ya start seeing the sources for a while, ya get to know the good tapers, or perhaps their rigs. It can help narrow your options if you have multiple choices. I've come to know some of the dudes that consistently deliver at the Beacon (Scott Brown, Jim Rehill, Jim Badd - the Mule-related dude, Tom Hoffman, Justin Carlson, Yossi Pollak, etc).

I know I've made a post similar to this one about 4-5 months back and only received a lukewarm response, and that's cool. Just thought I throw this out there again. If you're just one or two steps removed from the guy who taped it, i.e., ya got it from the taper or from someone who did, then passing their name (and perhaps rig info) along with the show in an email or attachment 'taint too hard is it?

Yepper, yepper, your mileage may vary on this one. All comments, as always, are welcome.

Happy trading,

Ron

Thanks RonB...and to say more than I probably should, but...guess who got Beacon tickets for Justin Calrson this year (heheh!!!) (for the 22nd...)

Location-wise, I believe dead center of the lower balc first row is usually a good location for taping Beacon shows...lots of shows from the Beacon can sound boomy/muddy to my ears...so the stuff that RonB does for us is a great service...

I agree with RonB. I try to keep all the source and taper info and pass it on just because it seems real important to a lot of folks.

I have been in touch with someone who has the Layla show. Deal is pending waiting for final acceptance. Hope to have more info today. In the mean time I'll keep all other options open. Like checking here every ten minutes to see if it has been offered up!

Don't forget the guy who named a bar after you. Did you ever read the story on the Mother board? The KCJimmy Behind the Music spoof? I think its around page 120. Some of my best work.
