My son made a brief little visit this weekend to go see some music happen together with me.
When he arrived, we were just sitting around talking and he pulled out my LP and plugged her in. Oh boy, here goes some Viking Metal !!!
Next thing I know, he's playing the opening to Statesboro Blues...jaw on floor.
Asks me about " how's this other part go ?" He played the slide part fretting. "Just can't make it happen?"
heh heh...Its a slide sonny boy I told him.
The slide went on...and it was rough...but I told him...Duane's mates begged him to stop when he started playing slide.
Then he told me, " You know that Allman Brothers Fillmore CD you gave me, I remember when you did, I thought I'd listen to it once and just put it in a pile. Dad, I listen to this all the time."

squared

Thats such a cool story! Im constantly playing ABB at work and when others come in, I almost always get asked "who's that?" and I tell them its the Allman Brothers and they are usually quite surprised because all they know of them is Ramblin' Man from classic rock stations. I had some time one day and burned a CD with some tracks I thought were a nice representation and gave it to a friend. He's a fan now.

I have 2 year old sho's been on a steady ABB diet from day one. I hope it gets planted n his brain, like the "Mozart Effect". Still, I hope to have that type of experience with him one day of sharing music. Oh yeah..He likes to play Daddy's guitar too. He's got his own little guitar (OK..It's an Elmo guitar), but he's showing some chops! Great story

My 11-year old son Ronnie has been begging my for weeks to take him and his best friend down to Macon -- he wanted to show Jack the Big House, the H&H, and Rose Hill. We went yesterday and finished the day at the Georgia Music Hall of Fame.

I am so proud of Ronnie that this is an experience he wanted to share with his friend. Even better, at the Hall of Fame gift shop -- Ronnie BOUGHT HIS VERY FIRST ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND CD!

My cup runneth over ...

Great story, Hai! I always get a big smile when my son and nephew (turning 30) request 'new' music and discover it's the same stuff they heard their mama's playing when they were kids! (In fact - just got tix to see Roger Waters with both of these guys!)

It was a "Best of" compilation, Allman Brothers Band, 1969-1979, A Decade of Hits. He told me, "Dada! Look, this one has Dreams on it!"

Very cool, Jon.

Reminds me of when my son called me from Kosovo when he was in the Army, and I could hear "Ramblin' Man" playing in the background. He's an ABB fan, and we've enjoyed several shows together. It doesn't get much better than that.
