Hello!!!

How are all the JHawkers today?

Beautiful weather here again.

Not much else going on, except I can't seem to get up any energy. Started right after I saw the doc last Fri. Too bad, I could haVE asked him about it.

Anyway, enjoy your evening. T

Howdy Tyler - glad to hear you are having good weather. Believe we are going to get some 40 degree stuff up here beginning this weekend! Thank God - maybe my driveway will finally thaw...there's only so much you can do with de-icer. My girlfriend just called me this morning and informed me that her hubby took a tumble over the weekend in their drive and broke his leg so I'm doing my baby-step walk around the icy spots.

Sorry to hear you are low on the energy side, friend. Does your doc recommend any type of nutritional supplements (vitamins, herbal remedies) that could help with that? You'll have to drill him on next visit.

Hope things going well for your daughter and grandchild - been thinking about them a lot since you posted about their problems.

Enjoy the rest of your evening T - and think of Jack out enjoying some live Eric and Derek!

Jack, ditto on the description of the diary. T

Hey Deb, I only need 20 more posts to get another star. T

Drat!! I'm working tonight and missed South Park! Oh well, there are still reruns I haven't seen. When it first came out, I forbade my kids to watch it. Now I watch it with them and it's about the only TV show I make any effort to see. Anybody have a favorite episode? Of the ones I've seen, my fave is an old one with a dance competition and a duck with a sprained ankle.

Mitzi, I'm glad to hear your interview went well. Is this something right in your town?

Whooo, Jack, I can hardly wait to hear how the Deric concert was. They played St. Paul, MN last September (I think) and I didn't go. Kicking myself.

DZ, no fun being bored. Do you have decent weather to get out and about? Or are you still stuck in the cold? I think we are sending warm weather your way. It was great here in MN today. I'm sure you'll enjoy Crash. It really gives you some things to think about.

Lolasdeb, too funny that your Lola is a Rottweiler! I have a friend with a Lola, who is a mini dachshound and that had been my mental picture. I get what you mean, too, about animals communicating. My youngest son, who does not always live in the real world, asks me all the time what super power I would choose if I could. I always pick either flying or talking with animals. I'm a little embarrassed to admit this, but I took my lhasa to an "pet communicator" a few months ago. Of course, it was a total ripoff (what did I expect?) but I would truly love to know how she feels and what we could do to make her life happier. I just can't understand how she keeps her enthusiasm up, given her really dull life.

Dadof2, how nice of you to say hello. I hope you got lots of rest today and will have some energy back soon. You don't suppose it's the pre-Beacon "diet" dragging you down, do you? Anyway, get strong!

Hi Tyler, I never seem to have anything much to add, but I'm always really interested in what's happening with you. Has Rowland fixed Deb's home page yet?

LaPech, at first I thought SP was silly...now I can't get enough.Matt Stone and Trey Parker are really in touch with current events and have a knack at making them hilarious.
For example, last year when isaac hayes had a problem with them makin fun of scientology, they scrapped their original season premiere and did a "so long chef" episode that was a gut buster.Too funny...
The boredom actually has an upside.I'm just saving every extra penny for this year's Beacon run. With 4 definite and a 5th show possible, each nite will be a mini-vacation for me.That includes the big party weekend(30,31) and with the other nites, food expeditions throughout NYC.Also, it includes some of the "hand rolled" stuff.
I chose this as my "vacation" this year as opposed to going to fla for 3 weeks.Couldn't do both, so with the possibility of no Beacon in '08,I choose to make this year extra special.Add in meeting Effie, Mitzi(oh yeah), Susea and seeing friends from past shows,I am very HAPPY with my choice...
Still freezin here...y'all have a great day today and I'll see ya later

deezeee how did you make out with the Geek Squad? are they expensive? how long do they take? was there a waiting list?

i've considered applying for a job there, considering it is exactly what i was trained to do, but the word on the street is that they don't pay very well, and they have stringent screening that i am not 100% sure is worth the efford.

durning the 1992 lolapalooza tour I left to use the restroom and came back to Ministry playing, the whole lawn was a pit. I said " I will wait a few minutes before I went back"

This was also the show the Chilipeppers headlined and the lawn section, including me, ripped the fence down and started about 20 bonfires in the grass. Security tried to put them out but they were thrown in the mosh pits as well.

Here is an article.....

As the Red Hot Chili Peppers bounded through an encore of Jimi Hendrix’s “Crosstown Traffic” to extinguish the first day and night of Lollapalooza ’92 last Friday, flames danced atop their helmeted heads. A gyrating go-go dancer blew incendiary kisses into the air from twirling torches, and the sweaty throng under the Great Woods shed twisted to catch a glimpse of massive bonfires raging on the lawn as the mosh pits turned to circles of fans dancing around flames. It was a fitting closure – with appropriate circus sideshow overtones – to an event that sputtered and raged under the alternative-music big top.

For the record, security people with fire extinguishers watched over the audience-ignited blazes on Friday; the next night, the flames were extinguished by firefighters. But with those fires, and the sod-throwing that accompanied them Saturday evening, Lollapalooza was also extinguished as a Great Woods event, Bruce Montgomery, the site’s general manager, announced on Tuesday.

“It was two days of great music and activities,” Montgomery said, “but it’s not appropriate for this venue. We really tried to embrace the event and the patrons, but unfortunately a few people on the lawn spoiled what was a very good thing.”

Last year’s concertgoers at Lollapalooza also ripped up sod, but the venue found the damage acceptable, especially in terms of the event’s great success. Montgomery decided that events had accelerated from last year to this, and also over the course of the two days. In fact, reports are that the sod-throwing and fires (three or four large fires each night) have become general on the tour.

At Great Woods, sections of fence were used to feed the fire. Despite this mayhem, Montgomery characterized the crowd, overall, as peaceful. “They weren’t violent, just exuberant, and they weren’t hurting each other. They left peacefully, but it’s unfortunate that they went a little too far on the lawn.” Overall damage was estimated at $3000 dollars.

Montgomery credits Ministry with stopping Saturday’s five-minute sod-throwing episode when the band made a plea from the stage. Between sets, personnel from the tour went into the crowd asking that Great Woods security be allowed to extinguish the fires. Only one was relit, near the end of the Red Hot Chili Pepper’s finale

“We would have had a serious problem if we’d gone in with force or called the concert off,” said Montgomery. In fact, when the Great Woods managers met on Monday morning to discuss the event, they even asked whether there might be some way to create bonfires that would be controlled by the facility. But that idea was nixed.

“We need to operate day-to-day in this town in a routine fashion, and the town is very uncomfortable with this sort of activity,” Montgomery concluded. “We need to be predictable. It’s not appropriate to be building bonfires in a facility.”

Back to the show. This was the second edition of Lollapalooza, which was kicked off last year when Perry Farrell of Jane’s Addiction mounted a tour with his band, Nine Inch Nails, Living Colour, Henry Rollins, the Butthole Surfers, and Ice-T with Body Count. The idea was to gather some of the strongest non-mainstream bands available and inform the whole thing with a broader cultural/political slant – with an art show, political-action booths, and other events.

The music, of course occupied the center ring of this year’s festival more than a mere music showcase. Throughout the day, a milling throng of smiling kids in baggy shorts and tour T-shirts sampled exotic foods and “smart” drinks, bought pendants and bracelets and hash pipes, had their noses pierced and considered a (washable) tattoo. They also sampled political literature, registered to vote, and won chances to smash televisions and other major appliances in the “crush cage” by playing issue-oriented games of chance.

Acts on the second stage created something of a scheduling dilemma: with no prior notice, hometown bands Green Magnet School and Tribe played before the opening act on the main to a smaller-than-deserved audience, and the most mind-blowing act of the day, Jim Rose’s Circus Side Show, performed concurrently with Ice Cube. Not even the esteemed Cube could lure me away from Rose’s grasp once the freaks were on parade. I mean, how often is one given the opportunity to witness human pincushions with skewers piercing eye sockets and windpipes, a man named Lifto hefting concrete blocks with chains straining his pierced nipples, and Matt the Tube regurgitating beer, chocolate, ketchup, and Maalox – and then drinking the bile beer in a toast with the lead singer and drummer from Lush?

Musically, as well as literally, you could divide the day-long event between darkness and light. Lush, the Jesus and Mary Chain, and Ministry attempted to lure the audience into a dark world of noise and chaos; Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and the Chili Peppers reached out with communal vibes, albeit a more pedestrian musical language. From the vantage point of the lawn, the bright afternoon sunshine and happy faces contrasted with the late-night music of the Jesus and Mary Chain, throwing unwelcome light into the band’s heart of darkness, even though they played solid, straightforward renditions of songs such as “April Skies” and “Kill Surf City.”
