Hey now -

My son recently won his sixth grade Social Studies Fair with a project titled, "How Did Japan Treat American POWs in WWII?"

Here is an article about his project: http://www.mansell.com/pow-index.html

Please wish him luck as he competes on the State level next month!

Very impressive. You must be very proud of your son. Wishing him the best of luck as he competes on the State level (and I think he'll do well)

Very cool. I know you and I have talked about your son's subject matter quite a bit. I feel teh subject has been swept under the ru so to speak. In fact, I would bet most high school students don't have the knowledge your son has. Good work and best of luck to him.

Both Ron's son AND daughter are very well spoken, knowledgeable and FUN children that i've had the pleasure of spending some time with.

Congratulations Ronnie, and GOOD LUCK in the State Competition!

Hophead - you must be really proud of your son! Congratulations to Ronnie! I read the book Ghost Soldiers a few years ago when it came out and was amazed (and really saddened) by what I learned about the Bataan Death March and the struggle our US Soldiers had in these POW camps. I can remember from history classes (many moons ago!) covering the camps that the US held many Japanese-American's in during the war and of course the Nazi camps but do not recall any discussion of these Japenese camps our soldiers were held in. Very eye-opening.

Very cool, and good to see. And Jim is right, as the dichotomy between what Ron's kid is doing, and the ignoring and lack of acknowledgement and teaching about this subject in the schools of Japan is a real issue.

Very cool,

DH
