Since we discussed spouses last week I thought I would see how many of your kids like or dislike the Allman Brothers.

My son Ben really enjoys them. He has been going to Great Woods with me for the last 4 years and made his first Beacon trip last year. He even likes Gov't Mule better.

My daughter Karie likes the radio play ABB. She is like her mother can't stand the long jams. She likes High and Mighty and SongLines

My daughter Lauren has found an appreciation for the Allman Brothers since she started learning how to play guitar. When I bought Beacon tickets she asked if she could go! Unfortunately I didnt know this when I bought them. So she will be making her her first show this summer either in NH or MA.

My son David will be with me on the 6th Rob, you can meet him. I don't think he searches them out or listens like I do, but when he is at a show, he really appreciates the music.
My daughter Lauren doesn't listen. Its not that she doesn't like them, she just has other musical tastes.
My youngest son Daniel at age 7 can tell me who is singing and who is playing guitar when I listen to Abb/Mule/DTB.

Both my daughters, 19 and 23, like them. They go to all the shows I go to. I suspect that me paying for the tickets has something to do with that. My younger one will be at two of the Beacon shows this year with me and my wife. My older one is studying in Italy, otherwise she'd be there too.

both my kids can't handle my "overdoing it"(what overdoing--see thread "you know you are a peach head when........)----but my younger son(13) can take em or leave em & my older boy(17 in june) says he can't stand them, but then asked me if he can join me at a show----so he went at age 12 & will return on 3/26!! Perhaps, his not seeing them in a few years,is related to the first time he went &,late in the second set he asked me when it's over---he was very tired---i told him not to worry---only 1 song to go----they played.............MOUNTAIN JAM (for about 30 minutes!!)

My 8-year-old son loves the Brothers. He owns two ABB Compilation CD's (The Road Goes On Forever and Mycology) that he bought with his allowance money. We haven't taken him to a show yet, maybe this summer in Hartford.

We have two daughters in their early 20's.

The eldest only likes the country flavored tunes of Dickey's.

Our youngest is a big ABB fan (especially Derek&Warren) and has been to several shows with me.

my teenage daughters are both into hip hop and popular hits. However, the 14 year old recently asked for some titles of Grateful Dead 'old hippy' songs that she recalls us listening to to download onto her ipod. So there is hope for her yet. The other one who plays tuba in band likes a little classical and trad.jazz but primarily the pop hits that all her friends like.

I think currently for them its a peer thing and they like to be as far away from their parents interests as possible. I take them to see their favorite artists but I prefer to see mine without them! I don't think they'd be very interested in seeing the ABB unless there were 'cute boys' around anyway!!!

I do however notice, a fair amount of teens (mainly boys?) wearing old school musicians t-shirts..ac/dc, doors, hendrix...not sure if its a fashion thing or if they're really into the music

I have two daughters now 21 and 25 who have been going to Allman shows since they were 4-1/2 and 6, respectively. They have gone through hip-hop, rap, pop and other music, but always come back to "where it all begins".

The younger one is a solid jam band fan and also likes the Dead, SCI, Ratdog, WP, and moe. At least I agree on four of five.

The older one adores DTB and STB, and will probably be coming from Edmonton where she just moved, for a Beacon show or two.

I think I raised em right...

My kids love the band, the extended bands, the people, Beacon ... just the entire scene. It's their father who finds us weird and cultish, lol

Both my kids love them. Its pretty cool loving a band that reaches out to multiple generations. I could not have imagined going to a Benny Goodman show with my dad. My kids have attended many shows with me. Not only ABB, but Govt Mule and The Derek Trucks Band, and my daughter is crazy about Susan Tedeschi.........My kids are 18 and 22.

Me and the 22 yr old................she's a big fan.

Slightly off-topic....talked to a guy last night who just finished getting his 16-year old son set up in school here, the boy just moved here from San Diego in a custody situation.
Dad played in some '80's bands on the west coast. Dad finds his son listening to Funk 49,
finds out the lad can play all James Gang stuff proficiently on guitar, drums, or bass. Said it brought tears to his eyes.

The poster kids for Peachhead offspring have to be Bluedad's girls. Intelligent, knowledgable of the music, opinionated, classy. Very refreshing to spend time with this family.

My sons, ages 20 and 28, LOVE the Allman Brothers. They've been listening since they were in the womb and it's been non-stop since. My oldest is an active member here (ABB_Shroomer) when he's not on deployment (he'll be back in June!!) and my youngest now plays guitar in Tony Tyler Trance as a result of his love of the Allman Brothers and related great music.

They both attended Wanee with me last year. Now THAT was a very special trip for Mom to share the Brothers and the family with my sons all weekend

My daughter has always liked them and saw her first GA and Friends show when she was 6. Before that, she spent many a day in little red wagon being pulled around at outdoor music fests where she saw the Mule a time or 2.

My son has finally recognized the "good musicians" since he's refining his guitar skills. When he was young, he didn't like crowded places, so he missed alot of shows, but he goes to alot of concerts now. Mom's very happy about that!

I think my 3 year old nephew would be more of a fan if the brothers could add this song to their setlist..

Hot potato, hot potato (Hot potato hot potato)
Hot potato, hot potato (Hot potato hot potato)
Hot potato, hot potato, potato, potato, potato, potato... potato, potato, potato
Cold spaghetti, cold spaghetti (cold spaghetti, cold spaggetti)
Cold spaghetti, cold spaghetti (cold spaghetti, cold spaggetti)
Cold spaghetti, cold spaghetti, spaghetti, spaghetti, spaghetti... spaghetti, spaghetti, spaghetti

the song is allright i guess. just get's me hungry...

My son likes the Allmans and Mule also (he is almost 5) He will frequently be heard to be singing "Where's My Mule? Where's My 40 acres?"

My 20 year old . . . yes, I'm 38 and have a 20-year-old (wild youth-me then, him now) . . . doesn't like them. He can tolerate a little Mule at their heaviest, but that's about it. He's into music that I simply abhor . . . Rancid, Misfits, Alkaline Trio, lots of local indie stuff. I listen to about a song and a half of his music and I'm longing for something, almost anything else.

My younger son, 12, is not into them either, doesn't like any family band stuff or blues, unfortunately. However, in his case, at least, we do connect in other musical areas. He's becoming quite the little 70's Prog-Rock fan. Pink Floyd, Yes, and King Crimson are three of his favorites, so that's pretty cool.
