quote:

The New Guitar Gods: Cover-Men Mayer, Trucks and Frusciante
The wait is over: You are officially privy to the powerful knowledge of who graces the next cover of Rolling Stone. (Don’t you feel special?) We joined John Mayer, Derek Trucks and John Frusciante at the Los Angeles covershoot to witness behind-the-scenes shenanigans. The highlights? The ever-loquacious Mayer politely declined to wear any of the clothes the stylist had selected for him, saying, “Rolling Stone is the cool jacket, so to wear the cool jacket is redundant.” Trucks had his kids in tow. He travels with them because he’s “seen the tragedy of neglect in families on the road.” Mr. Trucks, will you adopt us? Frusciante kept rather quiet. But all three rocked the house for a little impromptu jam session, which you can watch in its entirety right here tomorrow afternoon along with exclusive video interview of the strapping guitar gods. Who loves you, babies?

Did you see all the "Who is Derek Trucks?" comments? Just goes to show you how uninformed the RS crowd is these days. Idiots....

There are obviously a bunch of know nothings posting over on the RS website. I was about to get indignant by some of the anti-Derek comments. I had to leave before I popped a cork.

This is selfish, but I'd rather the whole mainstream audience not know about Derek. He's a good secret to have for awhile

True. But if he does receive great popularity from this and become close to a household name, at least we can be the elite few who saw him in clubs two feet away and hung out with him. This may be biased, but I bet Mayer and Frusciante were nervous next to Derek haha.

Oh definitely. Whoever said Derek looks 40 must be blind.

I think it's wonderful that Derek is getting recognized for his talent. He's an amazing talent and the world should know just how good he is. (Although, ABBStillRockin - I know what you mean about it sometimes being nice having secret pleasures - hope I don't get pushed out of a show next time he's in my neck of the woods just because he's become SO big). I will probably buy this issue of Rolling Stone and I don't often because I just don't really care for the magazine anymore.

I kinda agreed with this guy:

Derek Trucks is THE BEST living guitar player even though The Derek Trucks Band is a bore. Nobody can touch him.

Couldn't help but notice some familiar sounding screen names over there.

Heh heh.

Keep up the good work.

I love Vai & Satriani, but there are way too many different styles and great players there to say either one of them is the be-all and end all of guitar.

Well we are big rock singers, we've got golden fingers
And we're loved everywhere we go
We sing about beauty and we sing about truth
At ten thousand dollars a show
We take all kind of pills to give us all kind of thrills
But the thrill we've never known
Is the thrill that'll get you when you get your picture
On the cover of the Rolling Stone

Rolling Stone
Wanna see my picture on the cover

I don't think that that will be the actual cover, just a little picture they have in the article. However, I agree with you - if that is the picture, you'd think that they could do a much better job.

We should all accept the fact that Derek Trucks is going to become well-known in the “mainstream". When all is said and done, I believe that Derek Trucks will be universally accepted as one of the greatest guitar players ever.

In the mean time; ABB's comments should be taken to heart. We must realize that we are witnessing history in the making. I intend to relish every minute of seeing Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes at the upcoming Wanee Festival.
