Being a "Cavalier" Spaniel, you might want a name that would reflect "knights" and royalties, since the word "cavalier" is from the French word "chevalier" which is the their word for "knight," and is chiefly used in English for a member of certain foreign military or other orders.

Lancelot
Arthur
Sir Paul (if you like the Beatles)
AKC Name - Sir Ray Charles What you call him - Charlie

I always liked the name "Paint". But they say you should use a two syllable name for dogs since they respond to it better for training purposes.

We have a Chocolate Lab. My wife wanted to name her Maggie. So on her AKC papers her full name is "Sugar Magnolia" & We call her Maggie for short.

Try to pick a name that has lasting meaning. Our 11 year old is Sgt Murphy, named after a character on a show my kids watched called "Busy Town". Sgt Murphy was a policeman (dog?) who protected the kids and the town. Now that the kids are 16 and 19 they still think it is cool. Our puppy is Roxy after the surf clothes my daughter likes. Knew some people in Charleston with a dog named Wando (after a local river). Find something fun and meaningful and a name you can live with for a long time!

My brother in law adopted a dog named "Princess Diana", since renamed to Zoe -- not much of an improvement in my mind!

I named my dog Bogey after Humphrey Bogart. I always wanted to name my dog Bogart but when I saw my pooch he was just to darn cute to call Bogart, so we named him Bogey.

I also like the name Buster or Buddy for a boy. I think I have a thing for "B" names.

Good luck with your new pooch. Cavaliers are adorable!!

Eileen

in college, we had a black lab named (and i'll spell it phonetically) Dee-oh-gee (also sounded like it could have been spelled Diohji)

but in reality, it was spelled D-O-G

people used to think it was some ancient oriental name...when in reality, we just called our dog, DOG

I'm not a big NBA fan, Ryan, but for a Cavalier, I'd go with LeBron (accent on the second syllable).
LeBron McCrary.

Other Cavaliers with promising canine names:
Donyell
Sasha Pavlovic

I know a guy that has two huge mutts: Henry & Fred. It's plain as it gets..... but it's also a bit different than "Spot" & the like.

If we are sticking with the Cav's theme, let's go old school:

Larry Nance

Craig Ehlo

Brad Daugherty
