That woman can take a punch. The second time it landed acouple of shots I thought she was going down.

Doesn't seem to like the handlers very much. Only one he didn't go after was the interviewer.

Last year a date took me to a restaurant that had kangaroo on the menu. Yes he ordered it ... He said I looked like I was going to cry while we were having dinner.

I sent that video to my friend John in canberra, NSW, Australia tonight, and here are his thoughts on the 'roos around him everywhere,

quote:
The big males usually only do that when fighting over females. That fella was a red kangaroo - they are the biggest (the males are called "big reds"). Eastern greys are the next biggest and we have lots of them in the bush about 5 minutes walk from our place, and I have seen them do that down there. They will only do it if competing for females or feel threatened, so I guess the big red there was feeling a bit freaked by the lights and stuff in the studio.

Normally the front claws would rip you if not wearing boxing gloves, but the real damage would be done by the claws on the hind feet - that guy there must have had his claws sanded back, or the handler would have ended up with his clothes ripped, and hurt quite bad - I have seen a dog with its guts hanging out after getting raked by a grey kangaroo.

On that wise, kangaroos are quite efficient dog handlers, often, the roo will head to water, then the dog swims in after it, then the roo, who is standing up, dunks the dog with the fore legs, and drowns it. With the drought, a lot of roos are close into town and the males become very protective of feed and water. Idiots walking their dogs off leash have allowed them to chase the roo's but if a big male (and they can stand up to 6') gets involved, the dogs can get seriously hurt or killed.

A few people wrote to the newspapers complaining about the roos, but got told to pull their heads in and keep their dogs on leads in areas where there are known to be roos. these are the same people who let their dogs roam at night (particularly out in the semi rural areas) and want to take legal action when the local police officer bring's their dogs collar around with the news that the dog has been shot while chasing sheep. 90% ofthe attacks on stock around Canberra are caused by domestic pets. - JT
