Hey Chris,

The Mayor posted information about this event on the GB. I will try and find it.

I am there

Whew...Found it! Here is a post from Buppalo1 (Randy) on the subject....

Had a great evening last night watching Otiel and the Peacemakers w/special guest Jimmy Herring. You do NOT want to miss this show if it comes near you.
Mark Kimbrell is right there with Jimmy...reminded me of Frogwings.

...and now, a SHAMELESS PLUG ALERT!
June 6, Glosser Amphitheatre, Gadsden, Ala. BIGMEN of Gadsden present the annual Blues & Barbeque. This year's lineup: The Skydogs, Microwave Dave, Lefty Collins and the NO Mercy Band, and the Donna Hopkins Band. Tickets $13 advance, $15 at the door.

And now for the truly shameless part--someone you know well (me) got to pick the lineup this year. The BIGMEN are very interested in supporting the Jam for Duane in a large way, and this is a bit of a trial to see if I know what I'm talking about as to what kind of entertainment will draw. So, anybody from here that chooses to support this gig wins twice. Once, by getting a great musical evening at a very modest price (plus supporting some of our favorite bands), plus laying the groundwork for bringing in an even higher level of entertainment for Jam for Duane weekend.

Your support is appreciated, now back to your regularly scheduled program.

Sounds like a great event. Thanks BD for the info. But, isn't June 6th on a Wednesday night/afternoon?

I know it's a long way off, but I am trying to plan a few things for summer.

(Gee, I wonder if I will be performing with the Skydogs?)

Should be sweet... Of course you know what LCNMB and the SkyDogss can do and we listened to Donna Hopkins on the ride to ATL on NYE. Microwave Dave and the Nukes are awesome. Got a chance to see them several years ago in my hometown. Dave is awesome and the bass guitar player played a slide bass on one song....just plain crazy.

We'll make plans after Wanee

You can go to www.gadsdentimes.com/forums for a discussion of the Wed. date by the primary promoter, Mr. Dawson of BIGMEN. Here's the story: Three years ago, Mr. Dawson of the BIGMEN, Carl Weaver of 2nd Street Music, and Bobby Welch of the Cultural Arts Association, brought their groups together to provide an alternative to our annual outdoor festival, Riverfest. For two years, the event was held on Thursday before Riverfest's weekend. Now, Riverfest is run by our Chamber of Commerce. It is almost exclusively country acts, with an occasional retro act. (Air Supply, Bo Diddley, Johnny Rivers) The Chamber of Commerce takes no input from the public and makes no attempt to provide any diversity. It is strictly marketed to the country music scene. Blues and BBQ actually helped them by bringing in folks that may not have travelled a distance for their lineup. But, our Chamber wants total control more than it wants success. So, this year, they reserved all the venues in the area for Thurs. before Riverfest. The BIGMEN just simply moved back one day, went around the problem. There have been some objections because of the conflict with church, but Mr. Dawson tried to do the best he could under the circumstances.

Be aware that provision has been made for the bands to have a place to play after the event, if they so desire. All are staying in Gadsden that night, and the event ends before 11:30. Mr. Weaver is trying to put something together for the following night, nothing over-the-top, but worthwhile.

One other side note--the first time this was done, a major effort was made by all involved to bring in Govt. Mule. Didn't work out, but that's the kind of attitude we're dealing with.
Instead, the lineup was Kenny Neal, Dewayne Burnside, and Eddie Shaw and the Wolfgang. Not too shabby.

Hey Buppalo, Thanks for the 'splainin'. I hope to be there. I loved Donna Hopkins at last year's Family Jam, and it will be great to see her again.

See you!
