I saw a bumpersticker the other day that said...

Do all jobs suck or just mine?

Which reminds me of a Drew Carey episode where he was talking to someone and said..."Aw, you don't like your job? Well join the club, it's called everybody and we meet at the bar."

I thought I was having a problem being happy with my job until I started tiling my kitchen and breakfast room. Cutting and laying the tile isn't so bad, but grouting is a REAL pain in the ass (actually, the knees.) Now I enjoy coming to work, because I know I can get some rest there.

Don't mind work so much as work stress and being constantly over booked with projects. I'm looking forward to retirement (and NO, I won't get bored)!!! Hopefully within the next 5 years, if things go well, then I'd be perfectly happy to volunteer or take a job that allows more of a life.

I see TWO topics in this thread:

1. I agree, being a workin' man really sucks. It just never stops when you're a "middle class man" to quote Styx.........no breaks to rear children, be a housewife..........options all three of my sisters have had. The pressure to BE SOMETHING in this world. Even my bro has it better than me.......he's a pro musician. So out of 5 kids, I really am the workin' fool. Dealing with it drives a lot of men to drinking problems, to bad health, to depression. I've persevered, I think I'm doin' pretty damn well at 52. Plan to work 10 more years then hang it up. If I would've had kids, it would probably be a lot longer than that.

2. Huey Lewis sucks, but not because of that lyric. I saw something on the tube once, I think it was a VH1 special. It said that every record company on earth told him he can't sing, to become an accountant. After literally YEARS and YEARS of rejections, he persevered and made it. Nonetheless, I happen to agree with the record companies: HE CAN'T SING. Never bought a record by him, never will. In all fairness, I saw him open for the Kinks way back in the 70's before he made it, and he put on a good show. Would I go to see him as a headliner? Hell no.

I don't know what Heuy Lewis said but he is boring.
I loved my job. Truely.
After so many years i retired and they send me a nice pension check every month.
Now I love retirement more than I ever loved work.
Retirement is not boring. I don't miss the long hours and deadlines.
I am free to do as I please. Now I can read all the posts here every morning, among other delights of retirement.
I used to say I would never retire because it would be too boring. HaHa

Freedom is wonderful.

There are times when I wish that I could go back to work.It it wasn't for a black girl named "Harley Davidson"(today she's hiding from the rain in my carport) I'd go nuts with boredom. And boredom can be worse than work.

I like my work for the most part.

I used to love it.

I donít like the stress, deadlines, feeling overwhelmed and occasionally feeling unappreciated.

All in all a good gig, though I would not do it if they were not paying me.

I need to find some research doctors who need to find out what the effects of drinking lots of beer, sitting around playing guitar and listening to the ABB and watching sports are on a 40-year old man. I could be that man. Professional couch potato.
