so...i developed this little plantars wart on the bottom of my foot. hurts like hell too. anyway, i started looking on line for some treatment options, and came across this:

Duct tape. In a well-publicized 2002 study, duct tape wiped out more warts than freezing (cryotherapy) did. Study participants who used "duct tape therapy" covered their warts in duct tape for six days, then soaked their warts in water, and gently rubbed warts with an emery board or pumice stone. They repeated this process for up to two months or until their warts went away. Researchers hypothesize that this unconventional therapy may work by irritating warts and the surrounding skin, prompting the body's immune system to attack. Today, duct tape is commonly used to treat warts, especially for children who may find freezing painful or scary. It's often combined with salicylic acid.

so, now i got a little square of duct tape on the bottom of my foot. and i gotta admit, i am very excited to try this "redneck remedy" and see if it really works

anyone else got any good tips for using common stuff (not just duct tape, i've already seen that book!)

well, i'm sure if you duct tape your penis to the side of your leg, it would cut down on the spread of the disease but you should really ask your doctor about that chris

oh, and for god sakes, warn your girlfriend

So you fell for the ol' duct tape trick, eh?

We got some ignorant folk in Hot Springs selling water to enlightened souls from up North

Seriously--hot water is what works. Lots of it, on a regular basis. Kills the virus that causes 'em.

Don't be a wuss

just get your hunting knife and cut them out.

wipe off any deer guts first.

seriously:

Compound W makes a product specific for plantar warts.
It works well on smaller ones.

I once had a podiatrist cut a larger one off.

Less scaring with the compound W.

My son Derek had four of them on the soles of each foot.

never said a word about them until he started to skate funny.

Then he told us his feet "sort of hurt"

The podiatrist saw the problem, told us the pain had to have been incredible.

They were treated and he's never had a problem since.

We do have to be careful with him, he seems to have a very high pain tolerance.

Kids can be amazing. I've heard from adult friends that planter warts hurt terribly (and Vinny agrees) - Ron, you and your wife will have to watch this one...he sounds like one of the non-complaining types who often have injuries and/or other medical problems go undetected for too long.

SERIOUSLY, here. I've had this problem myself. The duct tape won't work - urban legend. The acid treatment sounds promising, but can takes months or years... if it ever works. Go for it if you want to keep treating this thing for months... everyday... twice a day... for-freaking-ever. What you want for home remedy is freezing. They make home kits which work pretty well. I'd recommend buying one.

Step 2: IF you're willing to do a little extra "bathroom medicine" here's what really works. Go to your local grocery store that carries dry ice. Put a block in a bath towel and smack it with a hammer. You're going to end up with pieces that come to a point as opposed to a flat surface. Hold this against the wart and give it an extra good freeze. It will not be pleasant, it will probably blister and hurt for a couple days, but it WILL work. I've use this method 3 separate times and I haven't had a wart in years. Good luck!

Had one on each foot when I was in the 7th grade. Kinda fascinated me. What were these things, where did they come from ? Probably the gym shower floor...I don't know.
But after a few weeks of self induced surgery on them evey night they were gone. There's something in the middle of them , kinda fibre looking thing. Every night I'd yank em out with a pair of tweezers until eventualy no more fibers, then the rest of it disapeared.

The dry ice thing is probably a sure cure. Go one step further and soak a cotton swab in alcohol, then lay the swab on the dry ice until it freezes solid, and apply the swab to the infection several times and freeze it.
Best of luck.

We have.

He's a little quicker now to tell us when something is bothering him.

Still has a high pain tolerance.

(Good thing for a hockey player.)

Come to think of it, a 12 pack and some bottle rockets will also do the trick.

Duct Tape Therapy
CHICAGO, Oct. 14, 2002

"The whole point of this is a non-painful approach."
Dr. Anthony J. Mancini
Pediatric Dermatologist
--------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----

(AP) Duct tape, the all-purpose household fix-it with hundreds of uses, can also remove warts.

Researchers say over-the-hardware-counter duct tape is a more effective, less painful alternative to liquid nitrogen, which is used to freeze warts.

The study was reported in the October issue of the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine.

In the study, patients wore duct tape over their warts for six days. Then they removed the tape, soaked the area in water and used an emery board or pumice stone to scrape the spot. The tape was reapplied the next morning. The treatment continued for a maximum of two months or until the wart went away.

The duct tape irritated the warts, and that apparently caused an immune system reaction that attacked the growths, said researcher Dr. Dean "Rick" Focht III of Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

He said researchers did not test other kinds of tape, and so they cannot say whether there is anything special about the gray, heavy-duty, fabric-backed tape.

Pediatric dermatologist Dr. Anthony J. Mancini of Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago said he uses duct-tape therapy for warts in his practice.

"The whole point of this is a non-painful approach," said Mancini, who was not involved in the study.

The study was conducted at the Madigan Army Medical Center near Tacoma, Wash. It began with 61 patients between the ages of 3 and 22, but only 51 patients completed the study.

Of the 26 patients treated with duct tape, 85 percent got rid of their warts compared with 60 percent of the 25 patients who received the freezing treatment.

Researchers did not test the duct tape on older adults and also did not study whether warts recurred.

The apparent curative powers of duct tape are no surprise to Tim Nyberg, one-half of the Duct Tape Guys, who write books and perform comedy about the adhesive's allure. Nyberg said he and his duct tape partner, Jim Berg, do a shtick that includes duct tape wart removal.

"It's the universal panacea," Nyberg said.

Compound W has a medicated band aid that you put on your wart and it looks like your just covering a cut. Replace them with a new once a day for about a week and the wart is gone. I've used them, they really work. If I remember right you get 10 or 12 for around $6.
