In the morning I'll be hitting the road for another business trip (Washington D.C., this time), so I wanted to take a moment to pay personal remembrance to my brother, "Butch" who left this planet two years ago tomorrow.

Butch's last few years were not his finest. I don't want to hash over all of the details of the long post that I made when he passed. In a nutshell, my brother was the epitome of the All-American Boy. He excelled in high school athletics and played drums in several of Atlanta's premier rock and roll bands in the late 1960's and early 70's.

He served his country in Vietnam, where he also developed a fondness for drugs and alcohol. Upon his return, he never seemed to be able to refit into society.

Despite the efforts of his family, Butch became a street person. Two years ago tomorrow, he died as a result of hypothermia, Hepitits C and any number of other ailments.

I loved my brother. Rarely does five minutes pass when I do not think of him.

I really don't know what else to say right now. I do know that in spite of all of Butch's ways that God loved him too. I pray every day that in his final coherent moments, Butch was able to make peace for himself.

God bless all of y'all, too.

Rusty,

So sorry for you loss.

Man, WAR sucks big time. I too know a lot of people that were in the Vietnam war and it changed them. I do believe that God understands. He understands that people are stupid for starting wars and the personal mental outcome of having to fight in one.

May God bless your memory of him. He will always be alive if you have his memory.

Trust you and Donna are doing fine, as well as your mother.

And I regard you and Donna as my brother and sister...my eyes are gettin' wet.....

Love...john

Rusty, I remember the post you made when Butch passed away. It took a lot of strength to write what you did while you were so obviously grieving his loss. I'll be thinking about you as you reflect on Butch's memory. PEACE to you, brother.

Rusty - prayers being sent out to you and your family that your pain fades with the days (no, it will not go away but it may become more bearable). I was married to a VietNam vet and have many other friends who came back from that particular war changed men from the boys who had been sent off. Many of them took the path that your brother was on. Some with the same outcome - their demons were just too powerful to overcome. Bluedad got it right - War sucks big time...not only as it occurs but in the destruction it leaves in it's wake. And you are right in the quote above - God does love Butch, regardless (and he loves you, too). Peace to you all.
