If you live in a small backwater town like me, what is your town most famous for on a musical level. My town Widnes, Cheshire, England, situated 15 miles east of Liverpool and 25 miles west of Manchester on the River Mersey is famous for Paul Simon writing the song 'Homeward Bound' sat at Widnes North Railway station in 1965 on his way back home to America after a tour of the folk clubs in the area. The station itself hasn't changed much in over 100 years or so. It has a small single storey Victorian ticket office and a few hanging baskets and not much else apart from the 'Blue Plaque' marking this historic event. The plaque itself has been stolen on a number of occasions by souvenir hunters.

Well...the town I grew up in and around is Ashtabula Ohio...mentioned in Bob Dylan's song Idiot Wind...not sure if he ever went there or just picked the name from a map.

The town I live in/near now...Jacksonville Florida...as you might know has many, many musical highlights...the Brothers hung here before they moved to Macon. I wasn't here then, but they used to setup and play for free in some local parks.

Also Lynyrd Skynyrd formed here, most of them grew up here...there is lore all around about those guys. You can still see Judy VanZandt if you go to the Freebird Live.

.38 Special, Blackfoot and others...

Oh, and a guy named Derek Trucks grew up here and still lives here. Seen him many times as a youth, playing various bars when he was 12 and on up.

This is all common knowledge about Jacksonville, nothing new in my words.

I'm not sure if he's from Albertville, but he's definately from the same area here in Alabama. I'm talking about Pat Upton, the original singer for Spiral Starecase. His biggest hit was "More Today Than Yesterday." He also opened a club in Guntersville, about 15 minutes from Albertville in 1985. This is where Ricky Nelson played the night his plane crashed.

Also, Albertville is the Fire Hydrant capital of the world.

Cool topic. I live in Moultrie, Georgia the thing our town is "famous" for a few different reasons. It's the hometown of former University of Georgia football coach Ray Goff, U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss, former MLB journeyman relief pitcher Dennis Powell, the Sunbelt Agricultural Expo, and I once heard that the guy who wrote Nazareth's "Love Hurts" once lived here, ( I'm not certain on that one ). I almost forgot, there's a bridge about a mile from my office that has a sign that reads; "Jimmy (Ivey J.) Bryant Bridge, known as the fastest guitarist in the U.S." the jury's still out on that one too.

I've got a buddy who hails from Haleyville, Alabama...the home of the U.S.'s first 911 call. I saw the useless factoid on the History Channel's "Modern Marvels" the other day.

Good topic. I live in Manassas, Va and it's claim to fame is the two Civil War battles that were fought here. btw, I live about a mile from the battlefield and often walk my dog there. Also, Stephen Stills of CSN, had a band in the early '70s called Manassas and the picture on the album cover of him and his band was taken at the local train station in Old Town Manassas. In addition Steve Winwood, filmed his " Back in the High Life Again" video, in and around Manassas. One of the restaurants he walks by in the video, Third Base, is now Okra's (a cajun/creole restaurant) where I've taken a few GB'ers and Forum folks for a bite to eat, before seeing the ABB at Nissan.

Well, on a musical level the jukebox at the Red Dog Saloon has plenty of ABB, SRV, Hendrix, and other tasty selections.

Morganton NC, home of the late piedmont blues guitarist Etta Baker. There are some notable bluegrass musicians from around this area also.
