Hey !

It's seems like everday we have a hit and run or at least someone in the metro Atlanta getting hit by a car. Crossing the streets in Atlanta is like an episode of "Death Race 2000".

There was an 11 year old girl(dead) hit and run by a car thief last week...they just caught him.

Where my stepson Clayton, goes to school...there was this 16 year old kid...they thought he may have skipped school...but his Father found him in the woods...where someone had hit him and knocked him into the woods...Dead of course.

We have people running through red lights all the time.....and then you have folks that cross the road with dark clothes on in dark areas.

I came so close to hitting a black lady the other day...it was foggy and around 10:00pm...four lane highway and she just came out of nowhere...wearing all black clothes...it scared the living hell out of me and i'm sure it did her also. I had to swerve really quick to avoid her...I thought about it all the way home. It would freak me out bad if I hit someone...even if it was not my fault.

So my question is...have any of you seen a rise in people get hit by cars in the major cities in your state ?

I read about it more and more Kenny. I have read about 3 incidents in the last week. Only 1 was killed. I think with poulation growing it all ads up to...........

More cars on the streets +
More pedestrians+
---------------------------------------
= more hit peolpe and accidents

Another factor is the people driving and not paying attention (cellphones, ipods, cds etc.).
People in a rush (everyone is in a rush)

And where I live and I am sure it is everywhere. People dont care and walk out in front of a car. I find this happening a lot with kids.

This past Halloween I had to go to the store it was after 8pm. Teenagers walking down the road. I am crawling because it is Halloween. I get up on them and on stupid a$$ on his bike pulls right out in front of me!! If I was going normal speed I would have hit him! I leaned on the horn and yelled at him. Just trying to be cool in front of his friends. He didn't think he was so cool after I scared the sh!t out of him. I leaned on my horn and yelled at him then I followed him for a little while. These kids just have no respect.

It's also people walking and not paying attention.

Last month I came about 3 inches from hitting two girls. They crossed against the light, stepped out from behind a car while talking on their cell phones.

Jan 2 2002

I was hit in front of the silver spring town center. Lady trying to make an light and talking on her cell phone
hit me and sent me flying in the air. had to make a 1&1/2 reverse dive in the middle of fenton street. I was in
the cross walk in a marked pedestrian zone. bruised leg, fractured wrist (landed on it to save my head)
and permanent damage to my left rotator cuff.

She was fined 200 bucks and court cost and 18 months of probation. What a joke.
Nearly killed me (if I handn't stuck my wrist out to protect my head I'd be dead) and she
didn't even get her license suspended. She said she never saw me. I am 6-3 and 250 lbs
how could she not see me if she was looking.

Hopefully she's paying out her butt for insurance premiums.

Her insurance was insuffiencent to cover my medical costs. Spent close to $10K of my
own money on Physical theraphy. She had no assests that I could sue her for. Lose ,Lose

cell phones, cd players, whatever is distracting you behind the wheel is a danger to others.

peace
John

Yes, definitely. Seems like this happens locally on a weekly basis. And a lot of these turn out to be driver's who have had their licenses revoked due to DWI and/or a slew of prior driving offenses or people currently under the influence (as discovered if and when they are caught). What's really disturbing is the hit and runs where they just leave a human that could possibly be saved without giving aid or even making an annonymous call to get that person aid.

Totally agree with what others have said here about driver's AND pedestrian's being distracted by who know's what (cellphones come to mind) and just not paying attention. I learned this the hard way a couple of years ago...had some boxes sitting on my passenger seat which started to tumble and I reached over to prevent them from falling meanwhile stearing my car straight into a telephone pole. Thankfully nobody else was involved but I totalled my Durango (which I had just made last payment on) and discovered how much telephone poles cost. Now I know - if it's flying off the seat just let it go or PULL OVER.

Yes... I think they are still calling parts of Queens Boulevard "The Boulevard of Death" here in NYC. Lousy traffic light synchronization. lots of people out shopping and crossing the street and way too fast drivers....

Stay attentive and stay safe !!!!!

I blame Ted Nugent for all the recent hit-and-run incidents in Brookyn.

I think it may be that kids don't have sidewalks to ride their bikes on here in many places in Georgia. Also, people have forgotten what cross walks and lights are for. Instead of walking a little way to the street light or cross walk, they try to cross in the middle of the street, trying to dart over four lanes without a light or cross walk is crazy but they do it all the time. I have even seen women do it with a baby in a stroller. Crazy....use cross walks and lights, that is what they are for.

And then you have the cell phone users who pay less attention to what is going on around them, as well as drivers who think people don't have the right to cross the street, there need to get somewhere seems to be more important.

I was driving down a busy street just the other day, and a rather large mother (I only point out that she was large because she wasn't capable of moving very fast) pushing a baby carriage, decides to run across the four lanes of traffic. She had two girls with her, they appeared to be about 3 and 5. I had to break pretty hard to avoid hitting them, and so did a few other cars. The group could have walked about a 1/4 block down and crossed at the light. The kids weren't even holding on to the mom or anything, they just all ran across a few feet apart from each other. I don't know what that woman was thinking.

We just had another one Thursday, Man hit and killed by a car walking across the street. A busy intersection. They said it was the sixth fatality in two months

Yeah...don't you cringe when you see stuff like that !

I saw a lady walking down the sidewalk the other day...little kid around 3 with her. She was not holding his hand and had him next to oncoming traffic..instead of her.

I actually hit a pedestrian in Boston...... It wasn't my fault though.

I was driving up Huntington Ave in Boston and the subway cars stop in the middle of the street to let people off, kind of like buses except they are in the middle of the street. If you are on the opposite side of the street from the subway car you are not required to stop when the train has stopped. These trains are really tall and you can not see around them at all. As I was driving by the train, somebody ran out from behind it in front of my car. The guy was pretty lucky I actually had the reaction time to hit the brakes and not plow into him full steam ahead. He hit the side of my car, fell to the ground with a lot of force, got up, stared at me and then limped away. From what i can remember he looked like he probably was an illegal. That''s the only reason i can come up with that he didn't stick around and call the cops to put his lawsuit in motion against me.

I filed a police report on it to portect myself from hit and run charges but nothing ever came about from it. I still have the dent over my left wheel well from hitting the guy too.

On a trip to NYC last summer, I was amazed no one got hit by all the cabs I rode in. Those dudes are crazy fast when they have green lights. I suppose pedestrians know this and do not step out when it's not their turn.

I am more careful because in my neighborhood people are always walking around. Either they are walking their dogs or they are in a fitness mode. I have to negotiate several turns and about a month ago on my way home when I made one of the turns there were 3 people just walking in the middle of the street. I am glad I did not hit them because hitting one person is bad enough, but try to explain getting all of them. People need to stay to the side of the road and wear reflective clothing.

Queens Boulevard in Queens NY has been called the Boulevard of Death because statistically it has more people being hit than anywhere else in the metropolitan area. Out here on Long Island I learned that Rte 25 near the Smithhaven Mall has even more fatalities than that. So it doesn't matter if you are in the suburbs. I think it comes down to too many people living, walking, driving in areas not built to have that many people. The highways were not designed to have 15 cars coming into oncoming traffic on each entrance ramp, yet that is how it is.

Oh come on. She finally made an on-topic, sensable, response that didn't include references to her Terrorist buddies, and you pick on her.
(It was funny though.)
